Liverpool Fruit Exchange - The One Show

Post by Karen »

There's just been an interesting piece on the Liverpool Fruit Exchange on The One Show (Friday 2nd May). It's a Grade II Listed building - I wasn't even aware of its existence!

Should appear on BBC iPlayer soon!

I never realised what that building was, thank you for posting the detail and the link to IPlayer, will be worth checking out.

Made up to see that, lovely building and a few wonderful clips of archive footage - starts at 2 minutes and lasts about 5.

My late dad drove a wagon and worked for Waterworths the Fruiteres collecting fruit etc from the exchange before the war and afterwards when he returned from Burma. He left home at 4am in the morning to be at the docks and the exchange. Will take a look thank you for the pointer. :)

My late wife worked in the Fruit Exchange building for a company called A J Mills. I remember all the horses and carts lined up outside with their loads of fruit. I also remember the Beaconsfield opposite the Fruit Exchange where the male staff from the Fruit Exchange drank.
