Any more info on this, as I'd really like to go along? Members of my close family were brought up there, but I haven't been able to get hold of any records. Have visited the site on the outside many times for quiet reflection - would love to see the inside of one of the cottages. Or is it for ex-residents only?MaryA wrote: Coincidentally the Cottage Homes Reunion at Fazakerley was mentioned at our meeting this week, it is to be held on Saturday, 15th June and they are doing up one of the cottages to look as it was.

Fazakerley Cottage Homes Open Day
Mary, not wishing to hijack the Titanic thread...
Re: Fazakerley CH
Just telephoned Joyce, who had the leaflet about this, and she confirmed that you don't need to be an ex resident, it will be open to all on 15th June, 2013 between 12.00 noon - 8.00 pm
There will be a display of pastimes in Cottage 4.
The leaflet has confirmed that this is still the contact for records
http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... mes#p94252
and this is the website for the Fazakerley Cottage Homes.

Hope this is useful to you.

Re: Fazakerley Cottage Homes Open Day
That is super, Mary - thank you for your help. It's now in my diary, and I'm looking forward to going along.
Have been through all the registers for Fazakerley, Mary, and also had Roger Hull go through them all himself to double-check some time ago. There is no record of them there, even though that is contradictory to all the other records/documents I hold. They were definitely brought up at FCH but for some reason they are not in the books. (Ohh, if only things were that easy!) As Roger said, it's 'most odd'.

I wonder if there are further records that are not held at the Record Office, try the person at that link, perhaps you will have some luck.

Yes, I will do. I'm away at the moment, but will get in touch after the weekend.
Will let you know if I have any success.

cottage homes
Just to say what a nice few hours we had at the cottage homes today,
spoke to some of the men & women who were in there, some sad but lovely stories
it is also sad to see the buildings left empty and boarded up.

Re: Fazakerley Cottage Homes Open Day
We went along today, and met some lovely people.
It was quite an emotional visit for me; I stood on the stairs and filled up, but then thoroughly enjoyed looking around and chatting to everyone. A big thank you to everyone involved in the reunion.

Glad you had a good day, I can imagine it would have been quite emotional.

Re: Fazakerley Cottage Homes Open Day
It was, Mary. A long time coming.
Re: Fazakerley Cottage Homes Open Day
I believe it may be an annual event, it was definitely held last year anyway, so look forward to another visit next year too.

Re: Fazakerley Cottage Homes Open Day
Yes, I've missed the reunions over the last couple of years - I never seem to be around. I believe the Grade II-listed site is to be turned into residential apartments, having been recently sold.
Re: Fazakerley Cottage Homes Open Day
In a way that's a shame, but in another at least it gives the building a new life instead of it going to rack and ruin.

Re: Fazakerley Cottage Homes Open Day
I've a large number (okay, hundreds
) of my own photographs from the place over the last couple of years but I like that one from the clock tower. Always wondered what it was like up there. A favourite hiding place for generations of kids.
The clock does work, a gentleman told me, 'but only in ten-minute bursts'!
They are meant to be re-installing the gates, but they won't be anything like as imposing and grand as the originals, and they will be for residents' privacy, ie, people like me won't be able to drive in and sit and reflect in future. Security for the new residents, however - as you say, a new era, and new lease of life for the cottages. There is one cottage to the left of the hall that has been getting progressively worse each time I visit, and is in a derelict state now.

I think I've seen that one on another page on that site, apparently it's very damaged due to fire.
