Can any kind person based in Canada, please help me with a look up for a birth which took place in Ontario, in 1914? The Ontario Government website refers me to Ancestry and FamilySearch, but neither come back with a birth registration. There also appear to be microfilm indexes but that requires a personal visit to the Office of the Registrar General.
The details are: Kenneth Bernstock born 4 August 1914. Mother's maiden name was Lazarus. His father was Harold Charles Bernstock then working for the CPR at their Fort William depot. Harold's nationality would probably have been British although he became a naturalised Canadan citizen at some point. The mother Sarah was born in Russia and so her nationality will probably be shown as Russian although she had emigrated to Britain in 1896. She was visiting Canada at the time of the birth. She arrived in Quebec on 19 July 1911 and returned to Britain with Kenneth in Oct 1916. Her daughter Gertrude was born (1909) in Winnipeg during a previous trip and the birth was correctly registered in Manitoba, so I'm hoping the same applied in Ontario.
Many thanks if you can help.

I'm sorry I don't know of any of our members who are in Canada, I was checking our websites but this would be the nearest viewtopic.php?f=14&t=15315&hilit=canada there could possibly be some clues on there, but my best suggestion would be to try rootschat.com a forum that has individual boards for different countries, they are always helpful too. (Sorry to have to suggest another forum

Re: Look up for a birth in Ontario, Canada 1914
Hi Mary
Thanks for your help. I know there was a lady named Lois from Canada who was active on the forums a few weeks ago. I tried pming her without success. I checked out rootschat for links and advice before posting here, but apart from the Government websites, most of the links for Ontario resources were either dead or dealing apsects other than vital statistics, such immigration. However I might go back and ask for a lookup there.
To be honest it's not a big deal, just some research I'm doing for a cousin. I have the date of birth and lots more beside, but It would have been nice to have the official confirmation of the birth registration. I might write to the Office of the Registrar General for Ontario, although they don't offer any search service on the website.
It's a shame because the Canadian Federal Archives are really helpful, and I've got a complete record of the father's military service during WW1, including masses of details about where his wife was at various stages of the war, as she received his pay.

If you get any useful information for obtaining the details, please add it to the Canada link for future use, others will be grateful I'm sure.

I tried to find this on Family Search without any luck I don't think it's available online. There's a lot of Canadian records available but they don't appear to be available for that location at that date.

Thanks for trying Blue. I had no luck with either FamilySearch (which I'm not a fan of) or InstitutionAncestry.
