My brick wall - James Doyle/Mary Furlong

I know members generally deal with enquiries relating to the local area but I'm looking for help in breaking down my geneology brick wall.

I've been trying to find find details relating to my Great Great grandfather James Doyle. I believe he was born c 1849 in Wexford, Ireland. He married a Mary Furlong (born c. 1855) and they had a son John Doyle born 25 Aug 1874 in Ballyburn, Wexford (registered in Bridgetown). (I know that James Doyle's father was also James Doyle. While Mary Furlong's mother was also Mary Furlong).

Some time before 1877 James and Mary moved to Liverpool and had several other children including Mary (b 1877), Patrick (b 1885)and William James Doyle (b 1888) - all born in Liverpool. I have already located all the UK census records for the family in England including a second marriage for James Doyle (to an Ellen Glenn in Liverpool) but I have never been able to find any record of a marriage involving a James Doyle and Mary Furlong in Ireland (or indeed anywhere else). As Catholics, I would have imaged they were married some time before their first born son John was born, so likely before 1874. It is likely that they arrived in Liverpool between 1874 and the birth of their daughter in 1877.

Many thanks in advance. Simon.

If this isn't the right forum for this type of enquiry, if anyone could point me in the direction of one where I might be able to get help, I'd be grateful.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Although we know more about Liverpool records we would be pleased to help with enquiries about other areas if we are able. I must make the comment that I have never found a marriage for my great aunt and her "husband" who both came from Ireland, also being staunch catholics, so your comment doesn't surprise me.

We have put together a list of links which we have found useful for Irish research here viewtopic.php?f=14&t=13912&sid=5fc4edbb ... b3#p116895 also scroll up and down that post as there are some good suggestions for ordering certificates etc. if you discover the right one.

Thanks for the response and welcome. I'll check out the links and see if I get anywhere with locating anything. Good to know I'm not the only one with difficulties.
