Hi, is there anywhere to view records of why and when a priest was defrocked (I've got a pretty good idea why  ). I'm looking at Republic of Ireland.
Thanks, John

Perhaps newspapers? that's a bit of a shot in the dark but I don't know any better answer, I'm thinking that if there was a bit of scandal it might have been reported.

I don't know if it's accurate or not but the RC church has or had a reputation of closing ranks when there was controversy. Priests and nuns being moved on rather than being dismissed. Another common perception was that ROI showed deference to the RC church and tended not to criticise the church. Priests being highly respected leaders in their communities.

I agree Blue. They might have been respected, but the tricks this one got up to (some allegedly, some proven) would have got him defrocked. Nothing illegal, just very unethical, especially given the vow of celibacy....!
