Birth/Death of John Grant McEwan

I have trying to find Birth/Death of John Grant McEwan. I have him noted at his son's marriage in 1882 at St Silas Church Liverpool. I can find no other listing. Can anyone offer any avenues or possible reason why there appears to be no trace beyond that already found.
Any help or advice would really be appreciated.

There's a death in Liverpool Reg District in September Q 1858 for a John McEwan vol 8b page 62

At that time they didn't give the age of the deceased

That can't be it as Henrietta was born 1860 and christened in June with both parents listed. It does give a very small window for John's death.
