I have a family that after 1881 I cannot find. :(

James Mitchell b 1844 registered West Derby. Baptisms: 21 Apr 1844 St Michael in the Hamlet, Aigburth, Lancashire, England, Son of John Mitchell & Esther. Lived in Dingle Lane Occupation: Gardener.

Not found in 1851 census.
1861 census in Royal Navy at sea on board Orion, At least I think that is him.
Not found in 1871
1881 with wife Alice and 4 children
James Edward b 1869 Liverpool
John Austin 1873 Oldham
Margaret Ellen E b 1875 Oldham
Mary Alice b 1878 Haselden Yorkshire.
I can't find any deaths for them, or marriages or on any later censuses. I wondered if Alice might have been a second marriage , because there is a step daughter Mary Alice in Nottingham, but born Yorkshire and mother Elizabeth?? So not likely.
Also can't find Father James' marriage , Help please.
Thanks in anticipation.

Looking at the online trees the consensus seems to be that James' parents were John Mitchell and Esther Bradshaw and that they were married !2th August 1838 at St Nicholas' in Liverpool. That John Mitchell was a gardener.

Hi, Bert and thanks. I have the details about John and Esther. If you remember we went to see his grave at Childwall church. A lovely place to be buried and such helpful people found the grave and told me were it was, so when we went, it did not take hours. He died from Tetanus after an injury at work. He was a gardener. I suppose that is how he could afford a head stone. Do you think his employers paid for it? If so how can I find out ?
I am now trying to find descendants in the 1911 census, but they seem to die off early :(
Thanks again Lynne

I may be wrong but I've not heard of any stonemasons records kept, and I suspect even today, that would be the only place that would give a receipt. If you hear of any other means, I'd be very interested to know.
