I've just come across this as an occupation. Can anyone enlighten me please?

A Clicker or Boot Clicker is in the shoe making industry, A clicker was responsible for cutting the uppers for shoes or boots from leather or another material. There were specific knives and tools used for this. It was considered a skilled trade.

Thanks to both for the stunningly fast replies! Another little mystery cleared up - wish they were all so easy.
(in the same search I came across a census entry for 'no name recorded Lewis'. What a way to go down in history)

Sadly that might be why some of our ancestors aren't easy to find.
Glad you got your occupation sorted out though.
