Irish Birth Records

I have been trying to find a birth record for my maternal grandmother for some time. She gives her name on her marriage certificate as Mary Sarah Keating and to date I have been unable to find a record for her birth with that name. I have now found what she thinks was her exact date of birth (30/11/1889). I got this from the records held for WW2 Identity cards. Searching both Ancestry UK and the Mormon family search sites produce a record in the birth indexes for 1889 in Rathdrum, Wicklow which matches with other information. Unfortunately the index does not provide her parents names. The record is given as Vol2 8793, Film 101062.

Where can I go from here. Is it possible to order a copy of the certificate in the same way as we would do in the UK ?

ANy help would be appreciated.

Hello Mike and welcome.
You can order a cert from the Irish GRO at http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/General- ... ffice.aspx
It will cost 4 Euro [about £3.25] for a photocopy which is exactly the same as an 'official' cert. It has no legal significance but is OK for genealogy. Just make sure you tick the Photocopy box. You can also have the cert sent by email if you tick the Email box. The only drawback is orders cannot at present be paid for online. You have to download an application form and either fax or post it back. In my experience from faxing the order to getting the cert in my Inbox takes less than a week!
