What can I hope to find?

We have recently found out that my husbands grandfather Thomas Smailes was briefly married to a Maria Eaglestone (sadly she died soon after) in Daventry in 1894...have found the marriage on FBMD..however fmp also has the marriage.. as I dont have a sub and before I buy cedits ...would it tell me Thomas's and Maria's parents...If not then a copy of the marriage cert is my next plan of action.

I believe that the marriage you have found on Findmypast would be the one in the indexes, so would give you no more detail than the FreeBMD entry would. Is the one you found listed under the heading England & Wales marriages
1837 -2005?

Yes it was Mary... was hoping not to have to spend on marriage cert...according to the records Maria died in 1895 so only married for one year to Thomas..

Sorry but you seem to have confirmed that your result is the same as the GRO index.

According to the death index Maria was born abt 1867. The 1891 census gave this..

Unfortunately I can't find Thomas' age so can't do the same for him.

Hi DS...Thank you for looking I do have both Maria and Thomas on the 1891 ....what I was hoping for on fmp was perhaps a parish record of their marriage to confirm the details I do have on the 1891 census ... So I guess have to give in and send for the marriage cert which will hopefully give me some more info.

Have you checked all other avenues first? Anything on the IGI? or does Northamptonshire have an online parish clerk site like Lancashire?
