Hello Vivienne,
Might not have been able to help find ancestors but would have put the kettle on for you! Tullow is only about 30 miles as the crow flies from where we live. :)

Can I assist with ancestors now or at least give it go? :D

Hi Viv,
Re Bratten Fleming... see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bratton_Fleming

And re that first marriage for Robert... Found this on FamilySearch:
Groom's name: Robert Waters
Bride's name: Anne Lumax
marriage date: 09 Aug 1866
marriage place: Banagh, Carlow, Ireland
groom's father's name: Samuel Waters
bride's father's name: James Lumax
groom's marital status: Single
bride's marital status: Single

Hopefully, the marriage cert will give you addresses etc. Because the marriage is after the start of civil registration in 1864 you can purchase a copy of the marriage certificate from the Irish GRO http://www.groireland.ie/

At present you cannot order and pay online. You have to download the relevant application form and either complete it onscreen or print it. Then fax or post it back to the GRO. A fully certified cert will cost you 10 Euro [abt £8.50] but you can specify a photocopy of the Register entry for on;y 6 Euro. It is exactly the same as the certified version but has no legal standing.

It is unfortunate that early Carlow records are not yet online at http://www.rootsireland.ie

However, searching for Branagh, the place in the marriage, I came across this report of an inquest:
Infant, death caused by its mother, Pheby Dixy, shortly after birth, Banagh, Broomville, April, 1841
Broomville is a couple of miles south-east of Tullow and can be found on Google Earth. It is probable that Banagh was/is a small area within the locality.

I haven't found a death for Ann Waters in Ireland yet so perhaps she died in England.

Re Banagh!

Seems this was/is a civil parish in County Carlow. See: http://books.google.ie/books?id=siNDAAA ... ow&f=false
The report on the right groups the parishes of Myshall, Finagh, Ballon and Banagh together, the latter must be quite close. I am familiar with the first 3, [Finagh is actually Fenagh] all small villages, so I wonder what happened to Banagh?

I'll be back!

Think I may have cracked it! Branagh is actually Barragh! The double r has been mistranscribed as an n. Barragh is still here/there, a couple of miles north west of Bunclody. It's off the main N80 on the R742.
There's a reference here in the Griffiths Valuation extract:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlca ... arlow3.htm

Even more here: http://www.from-ireland.net/lewis-topog ... agh/Carlow

Incidentally, if Barragh was transcribed incorrectly so might have Lumax [Robert's wife's maiden name] been. Could be Lomax.

Hi Vivienne,

If you look near the bottom of those records you can click on a link that will reveal the original image as a PDF. Irish Genealogy ie provides free Irish records but their coverage is limited to a few counties you're very lucky to have these records available Irish records are often very difficult to access.

The records say Wicklow so maybe they lived on land on the boundary between Carlow and Wicklow. Here is another piece of information that appears to show the Waters family I'm not sure about Samuel junior's age on this though it doesn't match the baptism. It looks like them though ages can be wrong:-

Hi, I saw that death in Castlebar but I initially discounted it because it is quite a long way from where the couple married. It's over on the north west of Ireland and an area that people migrated from rather than to. http://www.castlebar.ie/

Shillelagh is just over the border from Co Carlow in Co Wicklow: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shillelagh,_County_Wicklow
While the couple married in Carlow county, Shillelagh may have been the nearest registration office.

The quickest way to get certs is via the Irish GRO online and fax the form back to them from your computer or a friendly fax machine locally. Typically they take 5 to 6 days to get the cert to you. Don't order certs from an online subscription genealogy site. You will pay 2 or 3 times the cost of going direct.

And great finds Blue. I hadn't noticed that Wicklow records were up on the http://www.irishgenealogy.ie site.

We're going from county to county with this thread DS I got a surprise when I saw Wicklow on the records.

Here is information about the parish:-

http://www.from-ireland.net/lewis-topog ... ld/Wicklow

If you google Killabeg County Wicklow you should be able to find maps and other information.

Viv,
Re viewing the images Blue found for you. You should check to make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Reader on your computer. The images are in pdf format and you need Adobe to read them. It's free from here: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/

It looks like the Waters family is from Killibeg in Wicklow and Robert married a Carlow girl from just over the border. These are the events that Blue found:
