There is not an obvious marriage between a Robinson and Chambers in the right locality, so your way forward needs to be with her birth certificate so as to get the first names as well.

There is a marriage for a Verna Robinson to David Marshall in Q1 1940 Gateshead Durham 10a 2256 however I don't see a marriage for either a Verna Robinson or a Verna Marshall to a George Gordon. I am thinking their marriage may have taken place in Scotland, in which case you will need to check the

In addition to the marriage found by MaryA, the only other marriage between 1933 when Verna would have been 18 and 1950, is this one:
Verna Robinson married Jack Woolley
Registration district: Oldham, Lancashire
Year/qtr of registration: 1936 / Jul-Aug-Sep
Volume no: 8D; Page no: 255
With the boxing link to Scotland, as MaryA suggested, you should look for the marriage up there. You will have to buy credits to view any hits you find.
While you are searching Scotland, you might try and find Verna's death because there isn't a death in England or Wales for a Verna Gordon up to 2005.

Since there are no deaths registered at the GRO for a Verna Gordon betweem 1933 and 2005, are you referring to Middleton, County Cork, in Ireland or one in Scotland? If not where is 'your' Middleton?
There are approximately 32 Middletons in England, 10 in Scotland and at least 1 in Wales.
In passing... are any of these births children of Verna and George?
GORDON, William - Durham - bn 1943.
GORDON, Dorothy - Durham - bn 1946.
GORDON, Kenneth - Durham - bn 1946.
If George died in County Durham this could be him. It's the only one with an age that would be a 'fit' for marrying Verna.
Death: GORDON, George
Registration district: Durham Western, Durham
Year/qtr of registration: 1979 / Jan-Feb-Mar
Date of Birth: 8 November 1912
Volume no: 1; Page no: 1899.

Julie,
There is a marriage in 1946 in Glasgow on Scotland's People,
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
for: Gordon, George Batton and Robinson, Verna.
Unfortunately an image of the entry in the marriage register is not available for an online download. You will have to order the cert from the SGRO.
If Alison's find is the right GG, purportedly from Dunblane in Scotland, there are no Scots births to match George B(atton) Gordon, but there is this one in County Durham.
Name: GORDON, George B
Registration district: Gateshead, Co Durham
Year/qtr of registration: 1911 / Oct-Nov-Dec
Mother's maiden name: Besford
Volume no: 10A; Page no: 2048.
