Dublin records

Post by simone »

Hi

There is a marriage on the IGI... submitted entry.

I believe this entry may be my family members

marriage of James Duncan to Jane Wilson at St Ann's Dublin on 19 Aug 1828.

how can I get anymore details.. I have tried all sorts of websites.. posted on rootschat (a while ago though).. contacted representative church body, who advised that I should contact the church direct. I did this but got no response :(

any ideas anyone?
someone must have had sight of this marriage surely, to have posted it on IGI :?
Thanks

Hi Simone

Unfortunately this church does not feature among the C of I records on Irish Genealogy ie. Hopefully they will be added in the future. There are some nice images on there did you see the marriage record of Cloughby and Conness at St Mary's on 3 August 1828? One of the witnesses is a James Duncan.

Irish Genealogy ie plan to add images for all their records so there's a good chance that if or when they add the Duncan/Wilson marriage you will get the original image.

St Anne's church

Post by dickiesam »

Hi Simone,
I believe this to be the church in Dawson Street, just off Stephen's Green, in south Dublin City centre.

Was this the address you tried for info?
E-mail: stannschurch@eircom.net
Post: St Ann's Church, Dawson Street, Dublin 2.

My daughters used to sing at that church many moons ago. Surprised you didn't get a response. They were a very friendly crowd.

The registers for this church will be part of the Dublin City group of parishes, as distinct from the Dublin County [North and South] that are currently available at http://www.rootsireland.ie/

The city registers are supposed to be on the government-sponsored site http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html for the past year, so maybe it is in fact work-in-progress? Currently there is a major gap in the records for St Anne's CofI. 1800 is there, then from 1896 to 1899.

Thanks Brian :D yes that's the church
I used the email on the contact page which appears to be the same as the one you have. I did it a while ago, perhaps I should try again, although I am sure they perhaps get fed up of genealogy enquiries
feel a bit cheeky asking them as well :?

hopefully as you say, they will be online soon

St Anne's church records

Post by dickiesam »

Hi Simone,
I have managed, via a very good friend, to get some information that might help.

Some years ago the parish records of St Anne's were carefully transferred under the care of the then rector to the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin.
Their phone # is 00535-1-492-3979.
Email is library@ireland.anglican.org
Web is http://ireland.anglican.org/index.php?do=about&id=42

When I checked for availability of marriages registers for St Anne's I noticed an asterisk beside the name. Then found this... An asterisk beside the name of a parish indicates that the records are, in whole or in part, copies of or extracts from original registers which were destroyed in the fire in the Public Record Office of Ireland in 1922.

The only marriage records that seem to exist for St Anne's are 1845 onwards, so the question remains where on earth did the CLDS contributor get the information? It is very doubtful it was from a parish record because YoBs are included, so I suspect it is from someone's tree.
Sorry can't assist further.
