Hi anyone done any courses to further their knowledge on FH?
Was looking at some of the Pharos ones, you can pick and choose
there is this one as well as others

had a look at IHGS,... a very comprehensive course but very pricey, and maybe a bit too much.
anyone any views or recommendations

A few years ago I did the Certificate in Family History and then the Advanced Certificate in Family History at UCLAN in Preston. I don't think they are presently running. The first was fairly easy the second was hard! Rewarding but hard.
This has some information on what is available
FFHS - Education - Genealogy Courses1 Sep 2010 ... Federation of Family History Societies - Education - Genealogy Courses. ... of family history. Maybe you are hoping to gain a qualification. ...

Thanks Hilary
Will have a look at that
Although I've been researching for years there are so many things I don't know, thought a bit of education may be good
the pharos modules look good but seem to be well booked up

I enrolled for a short Open University course last year ("Getting Started in writing Family History" or somesuch thing) ... I thought it would be helpful in terms of discovering the best way to organise all the family fables, anecdotes, and other 'peripheral information' which doesn't fit easily onto a 'linear' Family Tree.
Unfortunately I found the course to be very disappointing: it was very much a case of 'do-it-yourself' with very little support/input from the tutor.

The OU course content was VERY basic Simone ... it's really more suited to those who haven't yet made much of a start on their Family Tree, and are unsure of which resources would be useful.
To be honest, I've found the members of this website and 'rootschat' more helpful & knowledgeable than the OU tutor!
I'm currently doing a Monday afternoon Local History course in Southport, and the tutor, Dr June Jones, is splendid! Each year she covers a different aspect of Local History (Merseyside & SW Lancs) ... she holds the classes in Southport and Ormskirk (I'm not sure about Liverpool?) They're run by Liverpool Uni's Dept of Continuing Education.
