Westmoreland with tinges of Liverpool.

Post by lynne99 »

Hi, I put this on the family search area first, but now think it might be better here, so I have copied it. Hope that is OK
Blue, still no good at finding the camera icon.
Spent ages looking for this family, thought I had found them and then...... the Margaret ATKINSON (that I had married and moved from Kendal to Liverpool in 1809 ish and died there after 2 more marriages in 1846) found her on the 1851 census with her brother William , alive and well, living in Strickland Roger, Gray Rigg Kendal. :(
So back to the drawing board. Joseph VARLEY, b 1781 in Aysgarth Yorkshire and a member of a Quaker family until he moved to Kendal. His parents did leave the church to marry , but all children were reintroduced to it. Marriage to Margaret Atkinson by licence in Kendal. Not in Quaker Church as I can see. I have a copy of the licence. But no parents for Margaret given. Holy Trinity most probably. He was a leather dresser. They moved to Liverpool after the birth of Samuel in 1809 in Kendal. Their 2nd son Joseph b 1810 in Liverpool and baptised after his father's death 10 Feb 1811 at St Peter's. He then vanishes.
I have Joseph seniors death and burial in Nov 1810 St John's. Any info on Margaret from the register's would be nice. or what happened to son Joseph??

Thanks

Hi Lynne

I don't know if it's because I've been going over the William Connolly VC stuff, spending a lot of time on free Ancestry, watching too much football or the hot weather I can't get into this one. Are you looking for Liverpool records or Westmoreland records? I've no experience of Westmoreland.

Did widow Margaret Varley marry Henry Weigh on 10 Feb 1812 at St Peter's? Have you seen this?

Thanks Bert. So the marriage is right but the burial is wrong. There was a third marriage for Margaret.

2 in 1812 to Henry Weigh in St Peter's
3 to Joseph Tickle in 1833 in St Paul's.
She died 1846 Lambert St buried St Clements . I have death cert.
