needle in a haystack?

Post by Barbara B »

I think this might be a bridge too far even for the super sleuths on here but here goes.
A cousin of mine would love to find out more about a lady called Elizabeth Macdonald. She was always part of the family but my cousin doesn't know how or why. She may have been born around 1910 and possibly in the north east of England. She apparently traced her father to Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides and he was also a Macdonald so I assume her parents were married. There is no trace of a mother however.
Elizabeth was a nurse who later became matron of Bootham Park Mental Hospital in York.
After retirement she moved to Chester-le-Street to be near her 'adoptive' sister.
She died arond 1990. She never married or had children.
I think this is a tall order but I promised my cousin I would try. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance

Bertie, I can't believe this! Wealands is one of the names in my cousin's family. You have cracked it in one. To say I'm gobsmacked is an understatement. I'm going to look at the rest of the family and figure out where this family fit in. Thank you so much, I thought this was a lost cause.

Just a quick update on Elizabeth Macdonald. It appears that the link to my cousin's family is through the Wealand line. My cousin's great grandmother was Elizabeth Wealand and was the sister of Elizabeth's mother, Margaret. I'm in the process of researching this family. I 'll keep you all up to date.
Thanks once again to Bertie.
