opinion on Irish marriage

Post by LindaG »

I have been looking for the marriage of Thomas Kelly c1817 and Ellen Darcy c1820 who married in Ireland about 1841. The only one I can find is Thomas Kelly marrying Ellen Daugherty in 1841, is it possible it could be this one? Their first two children where both born in Ireland, George 1843 and my Great grandmother Catherine 1845, unfortunately I cannot find either baptisms, so no idea where in Ireland, all census forms just say Ireland.
Any one have any thoughts on this marriage?

Daugherty to Darcy seems a big error for someone to make. Although a strong Irish accent could become Darcy to an unaccustomed English ear, such as a registrar. I assume you got Darcy from a birth cert for one of the later children, perhaps Sarah born in Liverpool 1848?

For the crew...

The name Darcy is also confirmed on the Catholic Baptisms for Sarah and James (Jas)
Unlikely to be a misunderstanding of the name twice.

TVM Bert. Found it eventually, transcribed as Kilby and Kelly was very clear on Summary page. Interesting that the daughter Mary, bn 1840, is shown as born in England. But in 1871 she is only 9 years old! Transcription mistake by the enumerator? RG10 Piece 3850 Folio 56 Page 17

Hi, DS,

Found a Baptism for Mary Kelly, birth, 30 May, 1859, Baptised, 5 June 1859.
St Oswald, parents Thomas & Ellen Darcy.

Led me to a tree, I don't know if this is Linda's.
With a note,

"Birth certificate has born 29 May 1859 at Springfield St. Father, Thomas, general labourer. Mother, Ellen, formerly Dorset. Baptism record has born 30 May 1859, Mary Kelly, daughter of Thomas and Ellen Kelly, nee Darcy. Baptised 05 Jun 1859"

I've not had sight of cert.

Yes this is the right family and I did get the name Darcy from the baptisms, just struggling to find them in Ireland will keep looking though. Thanks for all your comments.
