In 1899 Walter Clinton Hammond married Mary Robertson Rankine at Christ Church, Edge Hill, Liverpool

On marriage cert he gives his father's name as William Alexander Hammond occ physician

In 1901 census they are visiting a family called Jacobson in Scotland. Walter's place of birth is given as Germany occ Electrical Engineer and Mary's as Scotland.

Have searched 1911 census, death records etc but can find no trace of them after the 1901 census.

Does anybody have any ideas where I can look next

I was wondering if they remained in Scotland, have you checked the deaths on Scotlandspeople?

There are a number of deaths for a Walter Hammond, but none appearing for a Walter Clinton Hammond. There are a number of Mary Robert* Hammonds. I don't have a subscription so can't tell any more about whether the entries would fit your couple.

The 1911 census for Scotland will only be released after 27 March 2011 so you may have to wait with patience if you think they might be north of the border.

As we can't view the Scots transcripts, bn Germany could be an error?.
Mary R Rankine bn Scotland is in 1871 census W Dby
with her folks.

Hi Lesley,

Mary Robertson Hammond (other names Rankine) died 1930 in Dumfermline aged 66. Can't find anything on Walter. If you pm me with your e-mail I'll attempt to get the cert to you!

Those marriage cert ages are the same as in the 1901 Scotland census, and it does give Germany as Walter's place of birth. His wife Mary is shown as being from Glasgow, Lanarkshire.
