Hi

Are the records for this church available at the LRO?

I am researching this family for my cousin who is descended from the Rider family and would be grateful for a lookup for the following 2 marriages

June qtr 1911 - Eva Pretten to Victor C Evans

September qtr 1911 James H Pretten to Lisette Caroline Rider

Lisette was only born in 1885 but James H Pretten appears to have been considerably older - born 1858 and this is what I would like to confirm from his age on marriage to make sure I have the right man

James Pretten's father should be James occ possibly book keeper

There is an 1891 entry for James Pretten which includes a daughter Eva aged 1

Looking at the online search I don't see any records for this church. I'm sure somebody will check the catalogue when the archives are available, keep an eye on this post http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=9679 which hopefully will be updated as and when we have more information.

The LancsBMD site say they have indexed the years 1900-1966 for the marriages.

I can't find it listed on any website with a telephone number so don't know if it is still in existence, but I suspect not.

Actually I'm wondering if the registers may well be at Crosby. Hold that thought, Crosby don't have them, they say they don't have a great deal in the way of non Conformist records. Unfortunately they also checked the Liverpool Catalogue and can't find them listed there.

They aren't aware of whether the church is still in existence but the librarian is checking for me and will call me back, hopefully he will have found where the records are held.

It may be that you will need to get in touch with the United Reform Headquarters.

Watch this space.

These Records could be in the Merseyside Record Office collections. These collections are seperate to the Liverpool Record Office Collections. You could send a enquiry to roger.hull@liverpool.gov.uk and ask him to check

Crosby Library advised that the United Reform HQ is now called the Mersey Synod Office URC at 1 Thingwall Road, Wavertree L15 9JE telephone 0151 722 6590 however, they advised that they aren't aware of what happens to individual churches, they suspect that the records are either passed to the Liverpool RO or alternatively if two churches have merged, they may well be held by the new church. In any event they are not at the United Reform HQ.

Thanks for another place to try Katie. If there's no joy there then Carole will have to order the cert, either through the LancsBMD site or the GRO.

I do have a list of Non Conformist Records that are held in Liverpool Ronny spent a lot of time bringing all the records together on one database. I think there is a handlist of Non Conformist Records for sale throught the Society publication section you could check that out.

'Churches of Liverpool' by David Lewis, p. 1169, says that the church was between Stuart Road and Imison Street in Walton. New Houses occupy the site...
There is a photo of it on that page.
I could not see any record in the RO catalogue, but hope something turns up in the other possible sources.

287 LNO/20 Stuart Road Methodist Church (formerly United Methodist, and, before 1907, United Methodist Free Church) 1885 - 1957 so I'm afraid they must be different churches.

Same book and page, separate entry: Stuart Road Church is '...United Methodists established a mission station here in 1870....rebuilt after bomb damage in WW2 and occupied by the Baptists...'

WOW

You have all been very busy on my cousins behalf and I am very grateful to you for all your info.

Mary - thanks for going the extra mile with the (T) call - much appreciated

I have been doing her research for some time now and it suddenly occurred to me last night that I hadn't updated it since the 1911 went online - hence the query.

I am pretty certain that Lisette did marry a "sugar daddy" and that he died in 1934. Lisette did not re-marry and died in 1965

I will give her a ring over the weekend and discuss it with her
