Saint Bridget's Church?

Post by Barbara B »

Amongst some of my parents' old books I've come across one called 'Tom and the Enemy' which has an inscription as follows:
Robert Williams
From his Sunday School Teacher
A E Hanmer
Jan 8th/05
St Bridget's

Robert Williams was my grandfather but I'm interested to know something about the church. St Bridget's sounds Catholic to me and I know his family were C of E. Any ideas anyone?

I think there was a St Bridgets in Wavertree which was C of E. Need to check when I get home.

Hi Barbara,

Katie is correct. There was/is a St Bridget's CofE Wavertree, my G.parents married there 1915

Hope this helps.

St Bridget's [CofE] is in Bagot Street, opened in 1872 as a chapel of ease to Holy Trinity Wavertree, and given its own parish in 1901.

Hi Barbara
I was baptised at St "Biddie's", went to the Infants.
Here's a link which may be useful.

Thanks Dagers and Tina.
Tina, I had a look to see if my granddad was baptised at St Bridget's but apparently no - I know the address given on his birth certificate was 9 Maitland Street but I've got no idea where that is in relation to St Bridget's. They moved later to Alderson Street.
Thanks again for the input. Glad Lankawi hasn't changed since we were there, Tina.

Maitland Street would be within range of St B's, but Alderson St much closer.

Hello Barbara :D
Pleased to read you had been to Langkawi!! Lovely place.
I think Maitland ran off Lodge Lane so perhaps came under Tox Park district.
Possibly they lived in Alderson Road in Wavertree not Street, it ran from
Smithdown Rd to Lawrence Rd, then Lawrence Rd to Picton Rd.
Nice homes.
