Margaret M. WYLIE

Post by Griseli »

I now have a fly in the ointment so to speak. My great-grandfather apparently re-married 2 years after the death of his first wife. Charles James Goldring married Margaret M. WYLIE in 1913 in Bootle, St Leonard - Sefton Registers - I've found 2 Margaret M Wylies now - one born 1896 and the other 1886 and it's really strange both were born in Kirkdale, Liverpool. Not sure how I can work this one out unless I order both birth certificates? So far no luck finding her death either - any help/advice would be very welcome. :D

The marriage certificate will identify which of the Margarets is the correct one, as the information given on a cert is date and church, bride and groom's names, addresses, age and occupations, their father's names and occupations and a couple of witnesses who are often family members and also help with identification.

I'm assuming that you got the information from the LancsBMD site since you have the church, from that entry you can click a link to download and print off a partially completed Application Form for you to send off for the certificate.

It is also possible to order it online from www.gro.gov.uk using the reference Q4 1913 West Derby 8b 427.

Hi,
I doubt if Charles married the one born in 1896. She would have been all of 17 years old. I think it is more likely he married the older one born in 1886. If you had the marriage cert it would tell you Margaret's age and her father's name and occupation. You could then confirm which Margaret from the 1891 and 1901 censuses.

Marriages Dec 1913 > Goldring, Charles J TO Wylie, Margaret M - W.Derby - 8b - 427.
Order the cert from here: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certi ... efault.asp

No need to take a chance and order the birth cert. See below...
1891:
WYLIE, George - Head - 26 - General Labourer - Scotland.
WYLIE, Emma - Wife - 25 - Gloucestershire.
WYLIE, Margaret M - Dtr - 5 - Scholar - Liverpool.
WYLIE, Grace P - Dtr - 0 (8M) - Liverpool.

Address: 2 Percy Grove, Marsh Street, Kirkdale, Liverpool
RG12 / Piece:2968 / Folio:51 / Page:5.

1901:
WYLIE, Hugh - Head - 43 - Cashier Office - Scotland.
WYLIE, Emily - Wife - 38 - Ireland.
WYLIE, Margaret - Dtr - 4 - Waterloo, Lancashire.
There are other children [and a servant] in this household.

Address: 464 Stanley Road, Bootle Cum Linacre, Lancashire.

Jan/Susan,
Thank you so much for your input - it's amazing that in 24 hours I've learnt so much about somebody we knew nothing about - apparently and very sadly, this lady was very much disliked and, if the stories are true, she was the true "wicked step-mother". It's still good to know a little something about her as she's part of the family history. Thank you so much! Will now try to find out where she's buried.

Thank you!
Lis.

Good research everyone, but I just wanted to confirm what we said above about getting the marriage certificate. Without it you cannot be certain that you are following the correct family.
