Major Herbert and Mrs. Ivy Heald - Died 1946 - murder
I wonder if anyonecan help me with some research regarding the murder ov the above couple by their son Kenneth Charles Heald 1946. Where did they live at the time; where are they buried; what happened to Kenneth after the trial - when he pleaded not guilty!!! June Bibby Ps. any information would be helpful. thank you
The death entries for Herbert and Ivy Heald just give the year and not the quarter date. 1946 Southport.
This would mean that anybody who may have been willing to assist with any newspaper look ups/coroner's reports etc. would have a whole year to search.
Any information regarding Kenneth Heald would not be posted on this forum as it may concern living people.
I think your points of call would be Southport Library that has on microfilm the newspapers for that date ie, Southport Visiter, Southport Journal and Southport Guardian.
If you aren't able to visit these places and research yourself, your alternative may be to hire a local researcher. If you decide to go down this route I would be able to let you have details of a person I know who would probably be willing to undertake this work.

Southport Library is closed for refurbishment and the Newspaper Films are now at Formby Library.
I think your first step would be to obtain a death certificate for one of the couple. This would then make it much easier to track down newpaper reports of the case.
If the couple lived in Southport or Birkdale and were buried they are likely to be in Duke Street Cemetery or Birkdale Cemetery. I would imagine the newspaper reports would also report on the funeral arrangements.
If you are local I would suggest you come to our help desk at Birkdale Library on Tuesdays 10 - 12 and we will see what we can do to help you. If you're not local as Mary says we can suggest someone who would do paid research for you.

The parents were found dead at their home in Liverpool Road, Ainsdale, on 20th April 1946. They had been shot.
On 23rd, Kenneth was charged with murdering them between 12th and 19th April.
Both the above snippets are from The Times.
Major Herbert Heald is commemorated by CWGC as he was a serving officer and his death occurred within the qualifying period for the Second World War commemoration.
