Hi
I am looking for any information about a John Monaghan and Mary nee Scott. They had at least 3 children John Benedict, William and Catherine and maybe Annie who died I have their Baptism records
Catherine married Robert Thompson and had at least 2 children Robert and Jessie, they are on the 1911 Census which I have
I have no other records of John Benedict
I have details but no certificate of a John Monaghan marrying a Mary Scott in 1882
My dilemma is my Grandfather William born 1889 I have his Baptism Marriage and Death Certificate and the GRO IN SOUTHPORT have completed their search and there are no birth records in England for a William Monaghan. He was either not registered or given a different forename at birth
I have no family members to ask any of this information
Any advice would be appreciated about any of the family members mentioned above
Regards
Lorraine

Hi Simone :D
You're right about the baptism details.
There is a Wm Monaghan, in 1891 he's in Walton on the Hill, not a match with parents, perhaps he's the W Dby birth?
In 1891 & 1901 they are Lpool, nowhere near W Dby.
BTW 1891 as Monagan.
Perhaps this was the surname on the birth rego?
I can't find anything for Lpool.

William Monaghan

Post by dickiesam »

Hello girls,
This query has received a lot of attention on another forum without much success and the Dec 1889 William Monaghan [W. Derby] birth has the wrong parents.

The YoB on William's baptism entry is 1889 but I am wondering if he was actually born in 1888? Wouldn't be the first time for such an error...
Births Dec 1888 > MONAGHAN, William - W. Derby - 8b - 507.

Lorraine says she has no information about John Benedict other than the baptism. The baptism entry shows him only as plain John so where was the Benedict found?

To assist others trying to help, please give details from the 1901/1891 census.

The marriage for John Monghan to Mary Scott in 1882 took place in Our Lady & St. Nicholas & St. Anne, Liverpool, the registers for this church are held at the Liverpool Record Office - but please check http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=9679 and watch for closure details and when resources are again available and where.

Perhaps you could provide a link to the forum which has done a lot of work of your research to prevent any duplication of our members time.

Hi
Thankyou all for your replies
John Benedict's record is Baptism 1887 ST PETER
Mother Mary Scott
Father John Monaghan
It can be found on the LIVERPOOL RC BAPTISMS
There is also Ann Monaghan Baptised in St Peter in 1895 with the same parents
I have the Census Returns for 1911 and it states that John is MONGOHAN and MARY IS MONAGHAN
THEY HAD 6 CHILDREN 4 LIVING AND 2 HAVE DIED
I know that Ann/Annie died a year after birth
I do not know of the other 2 children or the 1 remaining living child in 1911 or where John Benedict is residing
He may have died and there are 2 other children alive in 1911 as well as William and Catherine
I am going to the records department on Wednesday with the names of male Monaghans born in 1888/1889 to see if their parents are John and Mary
Thankyou for the marriage record

There are a number of John Monaghans [incl variants] in the census 1910-12, including a number in the military, that are worthy of exploration. None of them have a second forename initial B however. Interested as to where this B [for Benedict] originates?

Liverpool Record Office is now closed in order to carry out the refurbishment.

You will have a wasted journey. It is hoped that the microfilm section will be relocated in the Liverpool Museum in the non to distant future.

The Liverpool Register Office are usually very helpful. If you forward them a cheque and ask them to check their records they may seek a William with parents of the names you have. They may be a little more relaxed about the spelling than the GRO is.
