Looking for Patterson children 1861 census

Post by eltelf »

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help here, as I'm stuck.

I am looking for 1861 records of the Patterson children, all born Aigburth Vale: Alexander (b 1851), Sarah Ann (b 1853 ), Emma (b 1855) and William (b 1857).

Parents Sarah Ellis (from Huyton) and Robert Patterson (from Aberdeenshire) were married in 1850 and lived in Aigburth Vale, where Robert worked as a farmer / coachman / farm labourer. Both parents died of TB: Sarah in 1858 in Aigburth, Robert in 1861 in Heaton. They are buried in same grave in Toxteth Park cemetery.

My problem is, where were the children in 1861? I can find no trace of them in census records. Would they have been in an institution somewhere? (No grandparents available to take them.)

I believe that they survived - I believe I can find them all in 1871 census, and later marriages for all except Alexander. (William certainly survived, as he was my g grandfather.)

Any suggestions very welcome.

Best wishes,

Lesley

Thank you so much - this is definitely my family. They are living with Sarah's widowed father, who is living with a married daughter I did not know existed.

I don't know how you managed to find this - but am eternally grateful. It puts a whole load of other bits of family information into place.

Thanks again,

Best wishes,

Lesley

You're welcome. I love being able to nail something that has been badly transcribed. Although in this case it was actually written as Pattinson, so not able to submit an error. Always be as flexible as you can when searching and make good use of the wildcard *. This is what threw up Alexander - well a pretty terrible transcription of the name, but enough to be worth looking at.
