Evening all.
Am stuck on a name. In 1912 Wrexham, Mary Whitehall married.......LUPY Holmes. Now this is a new one on me! I have LUPPY Holmes on the 1911 census aged 34 born Lancs, Birkdale. Can anyone let me into the secret of the correct name for Lupy/Luppy as I'm not sure what to search for in births (around 1877)
Thanks everyone.
Pauline.

Hi Pauline,

Looked on Free BMD

Lu-y Holmes Ormskirk Dec 1877 8b 765
Cannot look at the original though.

Same on Anc*****
Lu-y Lancashire 4th qtr 1877 8b 765
Here you can look at the image, it says Lupy.

Am wondering if this a typo for LUCY??

Edit: Think I'm ready for a holiday, can't be Lucy for a fella!

Hmmmm....now, here's the thing. Francis (Frank) Holmes is the father of the chap I'm getting a tree for. Now, John's Mum was Esme I. Farrington. She married Francis in 1912, Wirral. Francis Holmes birth reg 1912 Wrexham. Mother nee Whitehall. Found Whitehall/ Holmes marriage on Anc***** . Oddly 3q 1912....same as birth of Francis! Something fishy here! It's that name that's fuddling me though. LUPY....I ask you!

Oooh, could be possible as Francis married Esme in 1934?

The name Lupy could be a shorter version of Lupus there was a Saint Lupus. Some of these strange names come from religious sources.

Hi Blue. Just had a breakthrough. Spoke to Lupy's grandson who says Lupy died around 1970 aged NINETY or so! I have found just one death for a Holmes in the area.....John Holmes died aged 91. Shall crack on backwards as I have him on the 1901 now. By all accounts he was a character!
