I am trying to establish whether Matthew Warriner of Copperas Hill who had been the chairman of the Licensed Victuallers in Liverpool prior to his death in 1865, left a will. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
There was an obituary to him in the Liverpool Mercury and I do know that he had owned a small brewery with his brother David that they had purchased from Robert Cain.
Many thanks
Sheila

To find out if he left a will you will need to search the Probate Index. I imagine that Worcester Record Office will have a copy. Then you can order a copy of the will.
Have a look on the section of our forum under web sites and then wills and you will find information that should help you.

"A Gazetteer of Liverpool Breweries" by John Barge, which is mainly extracts from local directories, has this:
WARRINER:
Ann & David W... - 2 Islington Row, Wilton St., 1868-76: 10 Wilton St 1869. (2 Islington Row was St Georges Hall Hotel in 1887).
David W... 2 Islington Row, Wilton St, 1875-76.
Joseph W... 63 Copperas Hill (also a PH) 1873.
M&D W... 2 Back Seel St, 1860-62; 2 Islington Row 1864-73.
Wm W...& Co. 2 Islington Row 1871-73.
Allowing for errors in compiling the directories [not unknown], that seems rapid shuffling of interests!

Hi there
Not exactly this info, but something similar. You are absolutely right they shuffled the pubs between them for some years and as time went on even more family became involved both siblings and in laws. I believe William Arundale, Jonathan Anders and Henry Joplin all part of the extended family had pubs in Liverpool first and introduced the Warriners to the trade.
Sadly, there is practically nothing left of this period to actually see. I have been fortunate in finding a lot of information from your suggestion to search the Liverpool Mercury. I can't thank you enough for that.I have over a hundred articles about the family to sort out prior to a forthcoming exhibition in Leyburn about folk who left the dales.
Best wishes
Sheila
