I've often found Welsh names in Shropshire before, don't know if the border ever changed or if they were just so close. Can't make out any better than you, but why not try the Shropshire board on Rootschat to see if any locals have a better idea.

Hi Col,

Never heard of that before, could it perhaps be a miss-spelling of Cefn Mawr? That is in Wrexham, and close to Oswestry, a long shot, but it may be something.

Cencus birth place check

Post by yappie »

Hi Colette
I don't know if this will be of any help but I understand the place you are looking for is Cefn Einion. If you use the google maps it comes up as Cefn Einion, Bishops Castle Shropshire.
Take care

Hi

And thanks so much..so its Bishops Castle after all that..still cant proove hes Charles Meyrick's dad.. but being a Tailor like Charles and coming from same village and Charles naming his only son Thomas theres a few good reasons he might be the right father..

Prob i have now is Charles Meyrick was born 1816.. this Thomas married 1825 to an Ann Rebecca in Dudley St Thomas she was from Rowley, they are in Lydbury North in 1841 thats the next village to Bishops Castle so Ann Rebecca has come to live in his neck of the woods..then by 1851 they are in Wolverhampton..

Thomas was born in 1785 so would be 40 in 1825..so he could have been married before and Charles a child from that marriage.

Charles is in Liverpool in 1841 & 1851 he married 1836 St Nicolas he dies in 1856, i guess i need to see who the witneses are as that might help me..

cheers
