If anyone has a spare bit of time when at Preston, could they look at the Bishops Transcripts for 'Manchester Cathedral', marriage on 7th June 1815, for any detail in the ntry for William Cunningham and Ann Morewood [as found in the IGI].

There is only the one entry.. possible typo on someones part. Completely understandable with the old hand writing. Possibly the 'a' not joined at the top, or visa versa.

Point taken about the month. I am now in pursuit of '102nd Regiment of Foot', which seems to have most of its history with the East India Company.

If the OPC site has transcribed the marriage from the original Register, the Bishops Transcripts are additional opportunity for error which might have been made at that point and continued on via the IGI.

If you are happy that you have the correct details should I amend the heading of this thread to "completed"?

Am I right in thinking that many of the IGI entries came from BTs rather than originals? I am confused by the difference in month between the two versions and would like to get at the original registers, or at least a filmed version, but as Manchester central library is out of reach for now, I shall have to leave my Canadian contact in suspense.

I've certainly seen the source of many of the IGI records listed as Bishop's Transcripts, especially in cases where the registers no longer exist and we're glad that there has been the back up.

I think it would be worth your while emailing the Lancs RO to ask if they have the originals or just BT's and while you are at it, why not email the OPC site to ask them where their transcript came from. If you gave the reason in these emails maybe they would do a check for you.
