Hi Glenys,
You don't need a subscription for the 1911 Census site here:
http://www.1911census.co.uk/
You can buy 60 credits for £6.95 and that would allow you to download two complete census pages including this one:
HOUSEHOLD - BLACK, KILNER NEWMAN - 1908 - 3 - West Derby, Lancashire.
You will have his entire family at that point in time, together with snippets like how long the parents have been married and how many children were born in total and how many survived.

Are you aware that there are two Kilner Newman Blacks? the one you mention born 1908 and another born 1899.
At around 1910/1912 the one you are interested in is living in a household with Robert Alfred 44, Charlotte Elizabeth 44, Gertrude Augusta 19, Robert Alfred 16, Georgina Frances 9, Charlotte Mary 6 and Philip Ernest 8months.
Seems well worth a twopennorth.

These two have to be related and in the absence of a death the one born in 1898 is probably in the 1911 census, as well as the one Mary A has pointed out.
Births Dec 1898 - Black, Kilner Newman - W. Derby - 8b - 326.
Births Sep 1907 - Black, Kilner Newman A - W. Derby - 8b - 331.
The fathers of the above, Kilner and Robert Black, were born in Ireland.
Two 1911 census pages would definitely be "well worth a twopennorth".

Hi Tina,
Thanks for that; was it the Kilner Newman A. Black or the other one without the A?
If it was the younger (with the A) does it show him married?

That information was from a Gores directory so it won't give that sort of information.
It may be that the only way you will get the information you are looking for is by ordering the marriage certificate. Because of the birthdates involved I hope I'm safe in giving the information for a marriage for

Hi All,
I have now splurged on a six month discounted subs for 1911, and have found the two Black families.
Tina found 1938 directory for the family of the elder Kilner Newman Black b.c. 1899, living Wylva Road, but I would still like to find the other family in a directory after 1911.
Robert Alfred Black, poss still clerk in timber yard,
Or perhaps if he had died by then, his son, also Robert Alfred Black.
In 1911 they were living 88 Bank Road, Bootle.
Hopefully,
Glenys

Guess wot? In Anc## they say Kilner Newman Black the one bn in 12th Nov 1898 got his Aviators Certificate from the Royal Aero Club.
He was a 2nd Lieut in the 10th London Regiment.
I've saved the document but there's also a PHOTO of him!! wowee..
I've saved that too.
Now I'll play around & see if I can post them here.
There's also incoming shipping info.
It looks like he died in Newton Abbott Devon in 1988 aged 89yrs.
Anc# have a record of his death notice in the Times, spouse Joan.
She is mentioned in the shipping records, some have him as "Norman"
he lived in the Far East in lots of places.

You're a beaut Tina m'dear,
Just got home after spending several hours stripping wallpaper in my son's apartment...............I'm bushed !!
Thanks for all that info, and what a coincidence that the family were living 276 Knowsley Rd., in 1938, as my family and I used to live 288, but at a later date !!!!!!
A son of Robert Alfred Black was Kilner Newman Black born 1903, he married Eleanor Harris in 1937, and I wonder if you are able to find him in 1938 directory. Poss living Bootle /Waterloo/Crosby area - they had a child born 1944 in Crosby.
I owe you a large V & T or whatever your usual is
