I need Help with My HIGHTON Family Research!

I have most of the below on Census, apart from the 1841.

Thomas HIGHTON Bn C1798ish?, pos Liverpool, Lanc's

Wife: Elizabeth (?DAVIES?), Bn C1801, Kendal, Westmoreland (Pos: Christened 19th August 1801, Burton In Kendal, Westmorland)
(Pos Married 2nd June 1819, Saint Peter Church Street, Liverpool)
Children:

Thomas HIGHTON Bn C1821 (pos: Christened 31st December 1820, St Peters Parish church of Liverpool)

Ann Jane HIGHTON Bn C1823 ( pos: Christened 28th March 1823, St Peters Parish church of Liverpool)

Elizabeth HIGHTON Bn C1826 ( pos: Christened 7th May 1826, St Peters Parish church of Liverpool)

William HIGHTON Bn C1831 (pos: Christened 19th June 1828, St Peters Parish church of Liverpool)

John HIGHTON Bn C1831 (pos: Christened 27th November 1831, St Peters Parish church of Liverpool)

Thomas jnr & William were both Boilermakers, Thomas married an Irish lady called Bridget (surname Unknown?). William married Ann WALKER on 16th April 1864.


Could someone (with a Full Sub on Ancestry) please see If any of the above are listed on the 1841 Census Please?

In case it helps anybody trying to search, John and his mother Elizabeth (40), with her new husband James Pendergast (42) and his son Daniel (16) are living in Carlton Street, St Martins district of Liverpool in 1851, let's hope they didn't go too far from where they were in 1841.

Do you know when they married? could it have been before 1841?

According to www.lancashirebmd.org.uk Elizabeth Highton married James Prendergast in 1848. It was a register office or registrar attended marriage. her name is also given as Elizabeth Davies which must have been her maiden name.

There are 4 deaths for Thomas Highton on FreeBMD... Ruled out the Blackburn and Leicester 2 because there doesnt seeem to be any connection with the family on the 1841 census...The other 2 deaths are

Thomas Highton 1841 Wigan 4th qtr 21/ 479

Thomas Highton 1843 Wigan 4th qtr 21 /506

Thought the above may help as Elizabeth remarried 1848

Have gone through several pages of 1841 ...No luck as yet

I (sort of) gave up on looking for a 'Thomas HIGHTON' death record as there were so many & I don't have any idea When/Where he was born or died.

The only mention I found was as Father on Williams Marriage Cert.

William was a Journeyman Boilermaker, and travelled around a bit (his 2nd child was born in Belfast, whilst all others were born in Liverpool).

Maybe Thomas travelled for work as well?

Now You all have given Me a bit more to go on, I will get out My Census Discs & have a Trawl though the area around Carton Street! (My Name Index Discs are in storage at a Relatives otherwise My search would be a lot easier!)

I checked the Lanc'sBDM, and it shows 2 records (both with same Ref) one names = Elizabeth HIGHTON & James PENDERGAST, the other names=Elizabeth DAVIDSON & James PENDERGAST?

This is the record that You quoted, maybe they registrar got it wrong?

I took a look at the 'Thomas HIGHTON' deaths (all 4 of them!

It comes down to 1:

'Thomas Highton 1841 Wigan 4th qtr 21/ 479 (given as '58Yrs old at death)'


Of the other 3, 2 were children, & one was 68 & died in the June Qtr of 1848

I posted my Request on Rootschat, & someone posted this:

So, now all I need is to either find Where Thomas HIGHTON Snr was when the 1841 Census was taken (pos in Wigan?).

Then I can concentrate on finding the Marriage for Thomas & Elizabeth, also Thomas jnr & Bridget.

Hiya...2 possibles on lan-opc for Liverpool babtisms..I will post the St Peters one first as that seems to be the church the family used but they are a little before 1798...

FOR THE RECORD the Blackburn death in 1847 is spot on for Thomas`s age and he was a JOURNEYMAN Boilermaker..he travelled around the country making boilers and fitting them in factories...he might have met a woman and left his wife...these things happen, so I would put that one aside for future reference...I wouldn`t discard simply because the age given corresponds

Sorry I didn't realise that you didn't have the 1851 census, the reference is HO107; Piece: 2177; Folio: 310; Page: 73 & 74

James was a labourer born Ireland and Elizabeth's birthplace is given as Kendal, Westmoreland. Daniel's occupation was Assistant in a Spirit Vaults.

If there are any other censuses you are missing, please let us know.

The LancsBMD entry, spelt Pendergrast (that's why I didn't find it originally!) is to Elizabeth Highton/Davidson, one of these names will be her maiden name, hopefully helping you find a Thomas Highton/Elizabeth Davidson marriage, or at least check the original of the St Peter's marriage register to see if the surname has simply been written badly.

Sorry I wrote Davies when I should have written Davidson. As Mary says this would be her maiden name. You need to check the marriage entry as Mary says and get her father's name.

Thank You, I had a trip to Scan the St Peters, St Johns & St Nic's Registers planned for sometime in the next few weeks! (You saved me a Lot of Eye-Strain)

Also, the info about Thomas HIGHTONs Occupation being Journeyman Boilermaker Fits Nicely!

Not All Travelling Tradesmen took their Families with them, I know William HIGHTON did ( His 2nd child was born in Belfast).

Ok, I got the 1851 early this morning (from someone on Roootschat).

I have added the HIGHTON/DAVIDSON marriage top My Search list for the next time I go to the Library!

I think I have all the Census Data Now, I will let You know If I need any more!

That's interesting, but yestrday I found Thomas Highton (born in 1825 and died 1895) tomb in Latvia, Viļāni - the tomb attract my attention with it ancient look.
we have no Hightons in Latvia, it would be interesting to find out how he get in Latvia in that time - maybe the inscription on monument is wrong, and this Thomas is that Thomas who borned on 1831?
