I understand that my uncle, John Ambrose Higgins was an amateur boxer at this time and my father used to be his sparring partner. I believe John Ambrose used to fight under the name of Danny Higgins and won a regional award. I have recently heard of a photo with him wearing a belt which looks like the Lonsdale belt but he was never in that league. He died in 1955, aged 52 years. Does anyone know anything more?

Other forum members might have more suggestions, but the only thing I can think of is to contact a local boxing association and ask them where the records are kept of any awards.
If you google you will find a page for the Huyton Boxing Club and others.

There's a website called boxrec.com and on there is a list of boxers and Dan Higgins appears on it but they don't know much about him!! I got there via this

I was looking for a boxer Kid Moose but there's a box at the top labelled name and you should get there via that.

Olive Hughes.
Many thanks to MaryA, peterd and Education officer for their great help in my queries about Winwick Hospital and Liverpool Boxers. I still haven't been able to ascertain whether the records I am looking for are held in Cheshire or in Liverpool but I am sure a couple of days in Liverpool and Chester will enlighten me.
