Hi again... I've just joined the society - just to let you know I'm not after a free lunch in asking for your help!
I obtained a marriage certificate but can't for the life of me make out what the bride's father's name and occupation are. Would any of you more experienced dodgy-handwriting-interpreters care to have a look? The groom's father is Patrick Judge, Soapboiler, if that helps any. The bride's father's surname is Murphy.
I've set it as a link to a page on my website - I'm not sure what the etiquette is about adding pictures etc on the forum. The file is about 250k in size.

Thanks again...

Hi Steve
I would say his first name is Edward and that his occupation is stonemason.
Maybe you could find him with his daughter on a census to confirm.

It might be worth asking Mary A (look at the post about Liverpool Record Office look ups) to see if she would look at the actual entry in the St Nichlas marriage register as that would have the actual signature and might be easier to read and confirm his name and occupation.

Sorry just realised you are in Liverpool so if you wanted to look it up yourself you could pop into the Record Office.

Thanks, Hilary, I'll hopefully pop in one lunch time this week and do that.
I can see how you'd think Edward...
thanks for your help on that...

Gosh what scrawly writing, I'm glad the groom's name was fairly clear as I would have thought his father to be something like McGee!!
My opinion agrees that the name is Edward Murphy and he was a stone mason.
Father's name etc
