Mr & Mrs George Naden

In 1901 George and Eliza Naden lived with their children at 16 Derby Place Liverpool. George is understood to have died in Liverpool in the 1920s but not with the family. There is no reference to him in the family home in 1911 when Eliza (who terms herself head of the household) was living at 53 Leinster Road, Old Swan. Can anyone tell me where he went please? If they separated and he went into lodgings could he be found on an electoral roll although presumably without knowing where he was it would be an almost impossible task? I assume, too, that he would disappear from any street index.
If anyone can assist in any way it would be much appreciated. Living 250 miles from Liverpool does not make for easy research.

Hi.. welcome
About 1910-1912 George, b c 1858 Birmingham seems to be with the Hopkins family at 9 Cedar Road, Walton, He is listed as a visitor, married, and is a Clerk (Stevedores).
Head of house Charles Hopkins b c 1862 Northumberland is a Commercial Traveller. His wife Catherine Maud and their daughter Bertha were both born Leamington, Warwickshire.
Notice in 1901 he is living on own means.. so has he fallen on hard time by 1911

although he has been a clerk on previous census returns.

Dear Simone and Tina,
Thanks to you both for moving me on.
Tina - I thought I lived a long way from the seat of the action!!!! The death you detail is the one for which I was looking. You also quote a entry from a street directory. Are these accessed through the internet?
Simone - Thanks for finding where Geoge went. Your observation that he looks to have fallen on hard times is most interesting. It suggests that his wife had the money. Before marriage Eliza was Eliza Lucy Stanyard and family chatter refers to a Lady Stanyard; Eliza's mother perhaps. I will see if I can find her.
Thanks again

Also many of our members have personal copies they have purchased and are willing to use to look up entries to help our forum members.

Definitely Stanyard

we have a story of a Lady
Lucy Stanhope in our family... now there's nearly a coincidence

Hi Lingfield
You should know, Scousers are everywhere just like our Irish
Lady Stanyard must come from father's line not Eliza's mother yeah?
I did find Eliza in census, her Dad was a chemical labourer.
Anc@@ is not available at the mo, the site is down.
Get back to you later.

Tina, You are right of course. Eliza Lucy Stanyard's Father is the Stanyard not his mother. I know absoutely nothing of the Stanyards. The trouble is that the further you go back the number of people to be found becomes enormous. After watching 'Who do you think you are' I thought it would be a simple task.

Tina - In my earlier note I forgot to ask you where you discovered that ELS's father was a chemical labourer.

Hi Lingfield
I'm hoping this is Eliza in 1861 census
63 Lowerhurst St Birmingham, St Martin's War
William Stanyard 47 chemical worker & provision dealer
Elizabeth 45, Betsy 16, Mary Ann 11, ELIZA 7, Alice 2 all bn Brum.
1871 198 Herbert Rd Bordesley, Aston, Bham
William Stanyard 57 chemical labr, Elizabeth 55, Henry 31 chem. labr, Mary A 21 warehousewoman, ELIZA 16 no occupation listed.
Death for Elizabeth 56yrs 1872.
I'd say Wm has remarried by 1881, younger woman.
Won't list anymore in case it's the wrong family.
However, Wm & Co are in 1841 & 51 census if required.

Tina,
I am sure this is our Eliza Lucy Stanyard. The age matches and Stanyard is not a common name. Thanks for the info.
In an earlier note you brought freebmd to my attention and I searched this to find her death. There being no entry it occured to me that she had remarried. I found two entries for Elizas but none for Eliza Lucys or Eliza Ls. Is there any way I can search deeper without getting certificates for marriages which are not likely to be hers?

Hi again
Unless Eliza divorced George, she couldn't marry until after his death in 1924 making her 68yrs of age, so seems unlikely.
I presume the family were still in Lpool, there's a Leonard who marries in 1921 Kirkdale (LancsBMD) but Constance M marries in Prescot 1921...
(there's a Percival S Naden, death Barking Gtr London aged 76yrs in 1969 bn 1893c)
Nearest death is for an Elizabeth Naden in Prescot 1929 aged 74yrs bn 1855c
Sorry mate, not much help today.
