Good afternoon

How long after a birth was the mother given to register the child. We buried Frederick Richard Rees last Thursday and everyone said he was born in 1922 but according to the records he is listed as being born 1925. He always said he was driving on the beaches at the Normandy landings which I think were ?1944 which meant he would have only been 19 years old. Is this possible? any help with the other names would be helpful. Mainly all from the Toxteth area

Sorry to hear of the family bereavement.

The birth had to be registered within 6 weeks or the mother was fined. If you obtain the birth certificate that will show the child's actual birth date and whether it was a late registration.

The Normandy landings were in 1944. Men were called up for service on their 18th birthday so it is quite possible that he was driving on the Normandy beaches.The direct living next of kin could apply for his army papers. There is a £30 fee and it takes about 6 months. I will come back later with more information. I don't have it to hand at this moment.

At present you have 42 days and I believe it always has been six weeks. It's probably unlikely at that date that he wouldn't have been registered but it's certainly possible if the money wasn't available. It is possible that a few years later they thought to make things right.

Maybe one of our military experts could help with your enquiry but I suspect that enlistment age wasn't much different to nowadays where the rules are apparently "18 (military service is voluntary; volunteers can join at age 15 years and 9 months old with parental consent; must be at least 17 years old for admission to an officer program)" but men who wanted to go to the fighting didn't always tell the truth in WWI, could they have evaded this question as easily in WWII? At 19 I would think it possible he could be in Normandy.

Hi Hazel. Can't find any entry on Lanc BMD but Free BMD have just one Frederick R. Rees mother maiden POWER. 3q 1925 Liverpool 8b 286.

It is quite possible Frederick was in Operation Overlord in 1944. 18 years was the minimum age so 1926 as a year of birth is possible.

As Frederick has passed away you might find some information about him via this site. It's the 1939 National Registration (for ID Cards). This is a register that was drawn up to include every living person in Great Britain in preparation for the issuing of Identity Cards. I believe access is done through the Freedom of Information Act but there's a lot more on the site.

I believe that from 1984 the registration of a death must now include a confirmed date of birth, so the birth cert [or a passport] is a must.

Thomas F Rees to Elizabeth Power 1920.
There's 2 kiddies born in Tox Park
3 born in Lpool
Rees maiden Power.

yes it is the one that I have been looking at. Frederick Richard Rees with mother Elizabeth Power and father Thomas Frederick Rees. He alsoo had Albert born 1914, Daniel born 1916, Frederick ?1921, Cecilia 1922 and William 1929. there is therefore a big enough gap for Fred to have been b 1925 (it would also appear that Albert and Daniel were born out of wedlock so I suppose anything is possible. I have them marrying at St Patricks Chapel Liverpool in 1918

The 1920 is incorrect, they married in 1918 right?
Albert J 1920, Cecilia 1922 both Tockie Park
Daniel 1924, Fredk 1925, Wm 1929 all Lpool.
Something not right with your birth years for Albert Daniel & Fred.
