Are their any sites I can look at or have I just not got enough info.
THanks everybody, from a snowy Bedfordshire.

Hello Jean,
Do you have any idea of his regiment etc, I have looked on the anc site for possible army records but nothing coming up so far.
The army did serve in Egypt in WW1.

Hello Jean,
Do you have a death date for Evan and any other information about him? When [and whom] did he marry because his spouse would have been his next of kin? I assume you have him in the 1911, so where was he living and what was his occupation? It would help to rule out or in possible avenues to search.
He would have in his mid-30s in 1916, so probably a volunteer. With a little luck his papers should be in the National Archive collection on Ancestry.

Searching the index to Medal Cards in the National Archives documents online for 'Evan Lewis', I found 85 ranging from many in Welsh regiments to Artillery and others.
So far this is a needle and haystack task, and the place of birth or residence have little bearing on the unit any soldier served in, unless they were pre-war Territorials.
Any more clues such as photos, medals etc would help.
Many of those who fought in the Dardanelles campaign will have passed though Egypt, but others served there too.
