I'm hoping to get to Liverpool Record office on Monday and will hopefully manage some lookups for people.
I need full information if I'm to get any done.

Hi, just wondering if there is a cross reference system for Anfield Cemetery in the same manner as there is for Ford.
If it's easy would it be possible for you to check if there are any others in the following graves please.
Grave One - Church of England - Section 4 grave number 1577
Joseph PLatt Died Jan 10 1868
Mary Lees Died 1869
Rebecca Lees died Nov 13th 1881
Grave Two - Church of England - Section 4 grave number 1616
Robert Lees died 9th April 1922
Alice W Lees died 29th April 1946
I understand if it's not as straightforward as Ford and can't be done, but thanks for trying.

I don't know I seem to remember having to look for each one individually but I'll have a look. I suppose it's a list of graves I need.

Hi Ed Off. I've been told that there definitely ISN'T a cross reference for Anfield as there is in Ford so we need Order Numbers from Liverpool Direct before the other burials can be looked up. Thanks for your offer, but don't spend time looking as I don't think you will have any luck. Phone call will need to be made first.

To assist, if our Ed Off has spotted the message before she goes, Nicholas Purcell is 12 years old, an Inmate under Detention, at the Birkdale Farm School, with no occupation and born Widnes, Lancashire.

There are no admissions registers for the time you wanted so I looked in the Liverpool Catholic Reformatory Association Roll of Juvenile Offenders 1898 - 1917 which included Birkdale Farm School. This lists
Nicholas Purcell born 1 December 1888 aged 11 when admitted
payable to Lancashire convicted Widnes June 14 1900 for 3 years admitted 23 June 1900. There is a column headed 4/- list (no idea what this means) and in his is written 6/-
He was licensed or discharged 20 June 1903.
The birth date you should be able to tie up with a birth certificate and therefore the parents or if he's the only one of the correct age in 1891 that might do it.
Hope the above helps

Hi thanks so much for looking into this for me it is all new information for me
I have been unable to find a birth for him and have put a posting a few months ago with no luck
He was not on St maries or St Bedes records St Patricks would be the one but I have been to Widnes library and their records for births only start at 1888 I am going to ask our local priest if he knows who holds the originals and maybe I can have a look through
Thanks again

I would see if you can find where any other family marriages took place and then look for baptisms in that church. You now have a date of birth so I would look for baptims of Nicholas Purcell and Nicholas (any surname) with that date of birth. He may have become Purcell after a marriage.
If it's any consolation his grandparents must be Bartholome and Mary Purcell who I found in the 1881 census with loads of children mainly sons!!

Hi Nicholas in 1891 is with Mary his grandmother in Bridge st his grandfather was Martin Purcell who had died by then I will have another look a the marriage listings but Mary only had two sons Michael who would have been about eighteen at the time and my gt grandfather James who would have been about fourteen there was a daughter Annie aged about twenty but I cant find her after 1881 and Ellen who was about nineteen The families of Ellen and Michael are all known to me and although older members remember him when he came back to Widnes no one knows how he fits in Annie is my guess but I have been wrong on so many i just dont know

Annie sounds like a good guess! I wonder if the other Purcells I found are related?
My only other thought is to see if there's anything in the local paper about what Nicholas did to be sentenced for 3 years. It might say something about his homelife. Just a thought!
