Good morning and best wishes for the New Year
I have recently heard that 4 girls in my family were put in an orphanage run by Nuns at Hunts Cross after their mother died in 1933 and I would very much like some information on this place (name, location etc). I would like to visit whereever the records would be kept if anyone has this information
best regards
Hazel Rees
Orphanage at Hunts Cross
Hi and welcome to the forum.
I wondered if the orphanage would be Strawberry Field, but this was donated to the Salvation Army in 1936, so a little late for the date you are looking at, unless it was already an orphanage before then. I suspect somebody on the forum will know more.
If there are any records they should be held at the Liverpool Record Office, you could email them to check this.

Hi Hazel,
Welcome to the site.
I have looked in the 1938 directory and I couldn't find anything listed, but there was The Liverpool Orphanage in Woolton Road, the records for that are at Liverpool RO under Salisbury House School 362 SAL
This is an extract of some of the info that is the archives catalogue on the Liverpool RO website, it is too long to post, so I have just given this little bit.
The specific aims of the asylums were to bring the children up according to the principles of the Church of England, they were to receive an education in reading, writing, arithmetic and vocational skills. Depending on the state of their health the infants transferred to the girls or boys' asylums at the appropriate age and the older children were set up with employment by the age of fifteen. Many of the girls were accepted for domestic service while the boys were often apprenticed to local firms.
In 1913 it was decided that the asylums should be united and the three asylums collectively became the Liverpool Orphan Asylum and later, in 1925, the Liverpool Orphanage. From this point on only one governing body controlled the asylum. The site, however, was not ideal and the Committee raised funds to remove the children from the congested site in Myrtle Street to healthier surroundings in Woolton Road. The Great Fair in 1930 was held to provide the necessary funds which enabled the purchase of the new premises.

Hi it could be Knowle Park Woolton, run by the nuns.
Back then Hunts x & Woolton etc were listed as one suburb.

The year 1933 is unfortunate, many places have a 100 year closure, so you may not be allowed any information from the records, however, if you were to prove your relationship and if they were now deceased, there may be some leniency.

Hi Jan
Strawberry Fields was run by the Salvos so it can't be that orphanage.
When they made the movie, they used Knowle Park (Knolle Park) orphanage for the footage.
That's what cuz Tommy said & Knowle Park belonged to St Gabriels Convent.
Children attended St Mary's RC in Woolton for mass etc.
It could have been on corner of Hilltop & Church Rd Woolton.
Perhaps another dead end??
Tommy is trying to find Hunts X House.
