Hello everyone. I notice a mention of the name Lunt. I am looking for information on the Lunt family who married into the Ibbotson family.
Jane Ibbotson (father Frank, cow keeper and stone mason and mother Isabel) married 20 Sep 1866 in St Augustines Church, Walton on the Hill Parish, George Lunt, clerk, (father John Lunt, Porter), both resident in Everton. Witnesses: James Sanding and Elizabeth Ibbotson.
On the 1871 census George is shown as being a carter and they have a son George (3) and daughter Mary J (2).
On the 1881 census father Francis (Frank) mother have grandson George living with them, but aged (8). Possibly another child born later, named after a deceased George. I haven't managed to locate Jane and George in the 1881 census.
I would appreciate please any help offered with thanks.
Other names of interest are:- Marrison, Pott, Thomas, Edwards, Delamere, Williams (Liverpool). Pott, Prophet, Chetwin (Lancashire/Derby)
Edwards, Thomas, Williams (Wales) and Churchill, Lye, Sully (Somerset)
so may be able to help also.

Luckily ages are given at this date but a search of the indexes doesn't show up a likely entry for George nor Mary J.
Have you investigated the death of Jane Lunt Q1 1873 West Derby 8b 324 age approx 30?
I was wondering if they may have been able to afford a grave for her, if this is the correct entry the possibility at that date is that she may have been buried in Ford.

If this was researched there may be other family members in the same grave to help identify.

Not easy finding George in earlier censuses with his father - can you please give the details of what he gave as his age from the marriage certificate?

I have a feeling I have him now in earlier censuses ... although his age is a little out from what he gives in 1871.

A big maybe but worth asking for a look up in the Liverpool Record Office is
George Lunt to Emma Edwards All Saints, Liverpool Q2 1879.
The IF is, that if this is your George, and the age fits with the earlier censuses, this could be him in 1891.

I've added a request onto Philrob's and we'll keep our fingers crossed that somebody visiting the Record Office will do a look up for you.

Thanks Mary and everyone for their input.
Replying mainly at the moment to question re the MCert. Both parties give their ages as full. From earlier census I know Jane was born 1843, but have no other info on George. I do have a John and Alice Lunt at 11 Rock Street, West Derby 1881 cenus. RG11, 3715, 36, page 65. I was hoping to find more of Jane and George and children but looks as if Jane may have died, but will look into that and get back to you. Thanks again.

Hi everyone and thanks once again.
Since receiving your help, I have looked into indexes and Lancsbmd and found some probable answers:
Birth: George Jnr (1) Sep 1867 George Christopher LUNT (Christopher is an Ibbotson family name) - WD8b 368
Death: Dec 1872 - George Christopher LUNT aged 5 - WD 8b 2 (7-)
Two Births - George Jnr (2) March 1873 George LUNT - WD 8b 447
George LUNT - Liverpool 8b 125.
Death: - March 1873 - Jane LUNT aged 30 - WD8b 324, which makes it likely that the WD birth entry is the correct one for George (2) and fits in with the 1881 census where he is living with Ibbotson grandparents.
I have also found four births for George LUNT snr, three being for Liverpool and all 1845 all part of the fun of the chase.
Marriage: 4 in number for a George Lunt snr. following the death of Jane in 1873.
1875 - Lancsbmd - to Charlotte Davies Liverpool St John
1875 - Lancsbmd - to Margaret Boddan Liverpool St Peter
1879 - Lancsbmd - to Emma Edwards Liverpool All Saints and
1880 - 1880 to Jane Dickinson WD - Liverpool Reg.Office. forgot to take note of reg.details.
Marriage: - George LUNT jnr.
Dec 1894 - WD8b 842 to Mary Ellen LASHLEY, confirmed on Lancsbmd at St Nathaniel Windsor.
Sept 1903- WD 8b 614 to Hannah WILKINSON, confirmed on Lancsbmd at St Ambrose, Everton.
Dec 1901 - TP 8b 436 to Rebecca STONES, confirmed on Lancsbmd at Toxteth Park Reg. Office.
Birth: Mar 1869 - Mary Jane LUNT Liverpool 8b 87
Marriage: Mar 1893 - Mary Jane LUNT - Liverpool 8b 30 to
David Stirling. This is confirmed on Lancsbmd at Liverpool St Peter.
I also have a number of Stirling offspring to check on in census and there may be some hitches contained in above info and would welcome any pointers. Thanks again for help.

Thank you very much Irene - I hope Averil agrees that this is a very strong possibility for a second marriage for George senior.

Hello and happy new year to everyone.
I did send a message but sorry it was a pm to say thanks for getting me the marriage details. It looks as if it is the George Lunt snr who did marry again.
I have looked on the 1881 census for him and Emma and George jnr and Mary Jane but had no luck. Obviously not doing something right, but will have another go with the witnesses at the wedding.
Best wishes for 2010.

No they aren't easy to find in 1881 are they? I was trying to see if they had been mistranscribed as family members, eg with the Keenans, but it wouldn't appear so.
I did a search of James Keenan with occupation porter and a couple of possibles came up, however, remembering George's address in 1871 I suspect this is Emma's father, and brother?

Hi Mary. Thanks for your information. I have located the Keenans and noticed a fair number of Keenan families in Tranmere district.
The Cornwells could well be the Cromwells misinterpreted as there are typing errors made. (I am the eternal optimist).
I have not located any other relevant Lunts again and I am going to try James Pauling who was a witness to George's first wedding in 1866 to Jane Ibbotson. The other half of the Ibbotsons (Jane's uncle) did a disappearing act to Bolton leaving their youngest daughter, my grandmother with an aunt/uncle who brought her up. She noted on her marriage lines that her father was deceased when he and her mother and two sisters were actually alive. The parents even went to live in Huddersfield to live with the second married daughter before returning to Bolton where they died in old age. My grandmother thought that they had all died at a young age. I wonder whether George and Emma moved somewhere else for a short while (may be to escape the debt collectors) and then returned to Kirkdale?
I'll keep you posted. Until then, cheers
