I've been searching for a long time for Elizabeth Schofield born c1825 Crossens/North Meols/Southport without luck. She married George Hesketh 1840's but I don't know where. I'd be grateful for any ideas or help.
Thank you

Hi
Please could you give a census entry for George and Margaret so I could see where they are living. Also why do you think she was born Crossens, North Meols Southport?
The only Margaret wife of a George of about the right age I can see in a census says born in Wigan.
Margaret was not christened at St Cuthbert's North Meols the parish church as I have the LPRS book in front of me. In fact there are no Schofield entries - it isn't a local name. This is between 1813 and 1837. Another possibility would be Christ Church Southport opened 1821. Their registers are at Lancashire Record Office.

Thanks to everyone for replying. I've been searching for a few years for this couple and I still haven't found where they were married or living before 1861. I hope you have more luck than me.
Thanks again

How do you know she's called Schofield? It's just it's not a local name to the North Meols area.

I was given the information by George's grandson (my husbands grandfather) before he died. George and Elizabeth's daughter was named Elizabeth Schofield Hesketh, so I took it as being right because everything else he told me about the family was right. I too had my doubt's and he could have been mistaken but I doubt it knowing him.

Hi N.M
I saw that marriage in Lancs OPC but didn't list it because of the brides surname.
1841 for George could be the key.
Are you all set for Christmas?

Hi everyone
Sometimes a girls middle name is not her mother's maiden name but comes down through the family line e.g grandma as many of us have found out doing our own tree.

I think you need to get one of George and Elizabeth's children' birth certificate to find out Elizabeth's maiden name.
I also saw the Hesketh/Robinson marriage which does seem a possibility

As Bridger is in St Helens I suggest she first checks the parish registers for any baptisms of the children. The Central Library has copies of the local churches. That way she might get a date of birth.
If that doesn't narrow the field. I would go for John aged 1 on the 1861 census and go to the St Helens register office and asks for the birth certificate of John hesketh born in 1860 in Parr the son of George and Elizabeth. Hopefully they will be able to help. I suspect this could be his birth reference March 1860 Prescot 8b 483 BUT I'd go to St Helens Registrar first in this instance.

From Lancashire Parish register Society volume 142 The registers of Ashton in makerfield
Baptism
16 Dec 1846 (born November 25 1846) George 1child and son of George and Elisabeth Hekseth Town Green AS (Ashton) labourer.
I'm not sure of the registration district for Ashton but it'd be Dec Q if 1846
I guess this is it
Dec Q Wigan (covers Ashton in Makerfield) volume 21 page 700. This would be the reference for the GRO. Wigan Register Office used to do certifictaes while you wait don't know if theystill do. As you have the birth date this could be a quick way round solving the mystery.

OK from same book as above
Ellen born 25 March 1849 baptism 20 may 1849 2 child 1 d George and Elizabeth hesketh Parr labourer
Margaret born 5 June 1851 ch. 29 june 1851 3 child 2 daughter George and Elizabeth Hesketh Parr labourer
Elizabeth Schofield bn 19 August 1853 ch 8 Sept 1853 4 child 3d George and Elizabeth hesketh Parr labourer
Thomas bn 9 Sept 18 1855 ch 21 Oct 1855 5 child and 2 son George and Elizabeth Hesketh st helens lab
You should definietly be able to get a certificate for one of the children with all these dates of bith. I'd try St helens register Office.
You also know they moved to Parr before 1849 so must be in Parr in 1851. the library may have an index for the 1851 census it's worth asking.
