I'm seeking information on a John and Elizabeth Winrow, believe them to be from Ormskirk. Searching the Ormskirk Parish records has showed an Elizabeth Dandy, but I don't think she's too old to be the right Elizabeth.
John and Elizabeth had at least three children that I know of, John born c. 1817, Henry born c. 1825 and Jane, born 1822. I'm trying to figure out if John and Henry were the only ones to emigrate to Canada, or if the entire family left.
John emigrated to Canada and married an Elizabeth James in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1841. They had five children born in NS: Thomas, James, Elizabeth, Sarah Ann and Agnes. They then moved south to the USA to Roxbury, Massachusetts where Mary, Louisa and Margaret were born. John was listed in the US census as a ropemaker. John died in Massachusetts in 1864 and is buried there.
Henry shows up briefly as being a "landsman" in the US Navy during the Civil War. Elizabeth James Winrow and the surviving children somehow wound up in Philadelphia by the 1870 US Federal census with Henry as the husband.
I've read some of the Winrow posts on this site and think your missing John Winrow's might possibly be this John Winrow.
I have good documentation on the US end of this family including descendants.
Winrow family need help please
Hi and welcome to the forum.
Might I suggest that you post a message on the end of the Winrow thread that you believe to be connected and perhaps the original poster will receive notification and get in touch.
I hope you can help each other.

Hello, the Winrows certainly seem to get around. I imagine all the Ormskirk Winrows are connected in some way. The John Winrow (my gt gt grandfather) I have still yet to positively find a birth for did not go to Canada. He appears on a number of UK Census and I have his marriage certificate to Elizabeth Barker (1855) in which he lists his father as James, a farmer. It is possible that James is not his father as I cannot find a baptismal record for him in the time frame. The family was mainly in the Liverpool area from that time.
I have been caught up with domestic chores - house painting etc. I also got some information about my husbands family that led me on a merry dance so have been somewhat slack with my Family history. I am hoping to remedy that soon. I would love to hear more about your Winrows so feel free to get in touch.
Thanks mary for the heads up. I will get my act togethr soon.
Fond Regards
