Hi and wel come to the forum.
It sounds very much as if she may have died in childbirth since her husband married so soon afterwards.
Please can you give us some dates and details.
Do you have the 1861 census with Thurston father and son on? please provide details and references.
Do you have either the birth certificate for Thurston junior - is (Boddy) Margaret's maiden name?
Have you found details of Thurston's marriage to Margaret? If you have that certificate, give full details including parents names, witnesses etc.
The details from his marriage to Mary McDonald/Shipley in 1860 St Peters, LIVERPOOL, might also be useful, especially if he gives his status as widower.
If Margaret was his second wife and Mary was his third, who was his first? names and details, and her death date would be of assistance.
We'll try to help if we can.

I've assumed that you wondered what had happened to her, but the death was easy to find. Maybe you really mean you wonder where she came from - The 1851 census was transcribed as Thorsten Cubbon, and has been amended to Thurston Cobham on Ancestry, so it would appear that somebody is already researching this family, perhaps you could contact them and join research.
It would seem from this census that Margaret was born in Yorkshire, but you really should get their marriage certificate in order to find out her father's name and occupation which will hopefully help you get further back
Margaret Boddy married Thorston Cubbon Q4 1849 Ormskirk 21 505.
The marriage took place in Southport, Holy Trinity.
As this spelling of Thurston's name is the same on two occasions, he may have been known by this in his earlier life, be sure to check for both spellings when you come to research his birth etc.

I hope the marriage certificate gives you the information you need.
There is a birth on the IGI for Margaret Boddy 15 July 1822 Felixkirk, Yorkshire, parents Christopher and Jane.
On looking at a map for Felixkirk I see nearby a place called BOLTBY. On looking again at the 1851 census, what I assumed was Bottley, could well be this village.
There is a Margaret Boddy 15, in the household of Elizabeth Meek 60 (transcribed Mak), and Jane 30, at Market Place North, Thirsk. HO107; Piece 1238; Book: 5; Civil Parish: Thirsk; County: Yorkshire; Enumeration District: 3; Folio: 50; Page: 13
Remember that ages were rounded down to the nearest 5 in the 1841 census and Thirsk is quite close to both Boltby and Felixkirk. This entry would seem worth bearing in mind.
There is also a family of Christopher Boddy 56, Schoolmaster, Jane 48, John 24 Labourer, Christopher 15, Jane 10 and Mary 8 - no Margaret in the household so maybe she was old enough to be in service. HO107; Piece 1234; Book: 6; Civil Parish: North Otterington; County: Yorkshire; Enumeration District: 9; Folio: 9; Page: 12
The children in this family - Christopher, Ann, John, Jane and Mary, together with Margaret can all be found on the IGI having been christened in Felixkirk. All with parents Christopher and Jane.

Hmmm yes it probably is the burial I found, so no Margaret .....
I would suggest that Doug check the Workhouse Records, there must be something in them about her if she had the child in there.

Unfortunately there are very few records available for the Ormskirk Workhouse.
From
www.workhouses.org.uk website
•Lancashire Record Office, Bow Lane, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 2RE. Holdings include: Guardians' minutes (1837-1930); Workhouse births and deaths register (1828-48).
I wonder if her death is recorded with a mispelling, or she returned to her parents and died there.

The most likely one is
Margaret Cubben Q1 1860 Liverpool 8b 124
Unfortunately at that date no ages are given to give any clues.
Maybe Doug could have a look through some of the online burial sites that we have collected
http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=5739 to see if he can identify Margaret.
I wonder if there are any online for the Southport/Ormskirk area also?
Wife Number One??

This is probably Alice nee Halsall (second wife)
Burial: 17 Sep 1849 St Cuthbert, North Meols, Lancashire, England
Alice Cubbim -
Age: 28 years
There is no other possibly burial for Margaret at St Cuthbert which would have been the most likely burial place at the time. neither is there a probable at Mawdesley were the son Thurston is buried.
These could be more children to the family
Burial: 26 Apr 1847 St Cuthbert, North Meols, Lancashire, England
Ann Cobbin -
Age: Infant
Abode: Marsh-side
Burial: 4 Dec 1847 St Cuthbert, North Meols, Lancashire, England
William Cobbin -
Age: 2 yrs
Abode: Marsh-side
I bet this is another
Burial: 7 Oct 1864 St Cuthbert, North Meols, Lancashire, England
Ann Cotham -
Age: 3 2/12 years
Abode: Bingley Yorkshire

Just a footnote to this thread
It was me who put the alternative spelling on Ancestry - difficult enough when Ancestry mistranscribes, but when they did not know how their own names were spelled........
Douglas did find me on Genesreunited, but as it is Thurston's first wife Alice Halsall who is my relative I have been unable to help with the later wives
Another Cobham descendant also surfaced on GR, and over on the NMFHS it turned into a bit of a family reunion

I'm glad you made contact, even distant relatives can sometimes help if they put their heads together.
