What does this batch mumber mean?
Much to my astonishment I have just found a christening for my grandmother Eleanor Jane Glover on the IGI. It gives it as 20 April 1884 Oswestry. Well that ties in and the parents are correct. The batch mumber is I035599. I have been to Hugh Wallis' site and looked at Osewstry but nothing has the same numbers.
Can anyone help identify the place of christening? It isn't an inputted entry. Some years ago I went through the baptism records for the Oswestry C of E churches with no success.
I have now just searched on the baptism and get up baptisms in Oswestry 1884 - 1891 but I can't find which church as the number doesn't appear to exist on Hugh Wallis' site.
Please can anyone help?
Thanks
Hilary

the number is the batch of films at the LDS file rooms you may be able to order the film through your local fhcenter of the mormon church. it looks as though it was added recently as hugh's site only has c numbers an we up to j now. it is possibly a submission by a group or person who has extracted it from local records. here's what the church says
"5. Use the film or batch number to search for other family members.
If you find a record with a film or batch number, search for the film or batch. You may find other family members in the same film or batch.
For example, if you found Alan Kensington on film number 1417888, do another search using only the film number. See if you can find other family members on the film.
Note: If a record contains both a batch number and a film number, then use only the batch number for your search. Film number searches are valid only when there is no batch number. "

Susan
I'd be really glad if you could this is the entry
Eleanor Jane Glover
Christening: 20 APR 1884 Oswestry, Shropshire, England
Parents:
Father: George Glover
Mother: Isabella Ann Glover
Source Information:
Batch No: I035599
There appears to be entries from 1884 - 1891 with the same batch number all saying Oswestry and all christenings
As I said before nothing with this number shows in the library catalogue under Oswestry so I'm baffled.

I have received a response from the LDS saying the film number refers to the following
Film or fiche number
1035599
Film/fiche search results
Item 1 Register of deaths and account books I. W. Gill Mortuary (Wichita, Kansas)
Item 2 The Jaquith family in America Jaquith, George Oakes, 1946-
Item 3 The genealogy of John Lindsley (1845-1909) and his wife, Virginia Thayer Payne (1856-1941) Poole, Herbert Armstrong, 1877-
Item 4 Our Routh family : descendants of Jacob Routh (1745-1827) Routh, Ross H. (Ross Holland) , 1907-
4 titles matching the film number.
This makes absolutely no sense to me for an obviously transcribed list of baptism for an unnamed church in Oswestry. I thought the film number was I035599 not 1035599 so it's still heeeellllpppppppp!

apparently this batch numbe is assigned to a submission of church records from 1882-1890 Oswestry, staffs, extraction by church members from local records from churches (names not given) sorry I could not be more helpful.....if it is any consolation I know they usually do records of defunct congregations first so records will not be lost.
I also did some googling and the original parish church in Oswetry is called St Oswalds

Your findings seem more likely than those sent by the LDS but I'm still puzzled because St Oswalds was one of the churches I looked at and anyway why just do an isolated few years it just doesn't make sense. I just wish the transcriptors thought to record which church they were looking at. It would be far more helpful to people. I can see another trip to Shropshire coming.

PS if it's a defunct congegration it'd be even more helpful to know were it was.
