I am researching the name BIGGINS living at 159 Limekiln Lane, Liverpool in the 1871 and 1881 censuses. James Biggins, Widower, has three children p Patrick, Ann & Dennis, all born in Ireland of I assume they came over in about 1846-50. I cannot find any trace of James' wife. Nor can I find any trace of Ann's husband, John Devany. Can someone please help?

Can you tell us what your assumption of the date of arrival in Liverpool is based on? it would be fair to assume it was prior to 1866 - do you have knowledge that the marriage took place in England rather than Ireland?

Have you tried the IGI and also the LDS Pilot Scheme for the births, at least you have three approximate names and dates, rather than just one person, so if you come across them hopefully it will be with some certainty.

If you look on our Websites Board there are also some suggestions as to online sites available for Ireland.

Many thanks for your response.

Yes, I've tried the IGI and the pilot scheme, plus parish records - all to no avail. I assumed that they came over before the 1861 census as they so not appear in that.

Another conundrum is that the daughter appears as Honor Divine in the 1871 census and Ann Devney in the 1881!

Yours confused,
Patricia
