Catholic mariages

Post by greann »

Hi,
In my previous post I maentioned Jane Frances Thompson. Apparently she married a Canadian soldier by the name of Beverley Rolf Simpson in Liverpool and accompanied him home to Canada in 1919. She states her religion as RC. How can I find this marriage. Any help would be appreciated. oh by the way she changed her name to Jeanette F. Simpson.

Catholic mariages

Post by dickiesam »

Hi,
It doesn't matter whether the marriage was Catholic or not, it would have been recorded at the General Registry Office.

I searched FreeBMD from 1917 to 1920 and couldn't find a Simpson marriage to a Thompson or Thomson. Do you have any documentary evidence of this marriage?

No I don't. I simply think she came to Canada posing as his wife. There was a nespaper clipping announcing the marriage here in Canada submitted by the man's family. Funny he marries in Quebec, Canada in 1928.

Posing as his wife

Hi,
I think you are right about the posing scenario. There are no Harcourt to Simpson marriages either.

The criminal perjury attached to brother and sister is interesting. If the sister witnessed the marriage cert knowing her brother's real name was not that on the cert, would that be criminal perjury? And why choose the Harcourt name?

We had heard that David Gerard was illigitimate. So perhaps their mother "borrowed" The Thompson name as well. (Possible reason for not finding it) Rumour..................David did not like step-father and changed his name as not to have to use the step name. :? :?
