I am trying to obtain more info on my 2 x great grandfather Daniel Jamison. I guestimate he was born around 1825 - 1830. The only info I have on him is that obtained from his daughter's marriage certificate - namely his name and occupation (boot maker) and that he was deceased by the time she married for the second time in Toxteth Park, Liverpool in 1886. Her birthplace in the 1881 census is shown as being Londonderry, Ireland. I have no info on either her mother or any siblings.

Can anybody assist me by advising on the best source of info for Irish ancestors ??

I've just ran a search for a baptismal record for Daniel Jamison b1828+/- 4 years here: http://www.brsgenealogy.com/

It came up with just one Daniel M Jamison, bapt 1825, Co Down. You could run a similar search for his daughter. The records are free to search though you do have to register and to view each detailed record cost 5 euros. If you think she was born after 1864 the indexes to the Irish civil registration records are free to search here:

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsea ... ;c=1408347

If you find her there you can order her birth certificate from the Irish GRO http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm for €10 or a photocopy of the entry in the register, available at a cost of €6.00. This contains exactly the same information as a certificate 'but are only of use for research purposes.'

Good luck

Thanks Ann, I did as you advised and found baptism record of Daniel's daughter Sarah Jane Jamison (b.1851 in Londonderry). You pointed me towards some good websites for Irish ancestors and I really apprteciate your help. Once again many thanks.

Hi Mike

Very happy to help. There are also four occurrences of Daniel Jamison in Griffiths Valuation here:

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith- ... /index.xml

If you're not familiar with the Valuation it was published between 1847-1864 and lists every landholder and householder in the whole of Ireland, so you may be able to pinpoint your Daniel to an actual address and view the associated map, all for free.

best wishes
Ann
