Tina, Could have sworn it said Scissors

hmmm yes wonder where Tom is.. The closest I could find was a Thomas J Comer aboard Ship in 1901, in Liverpool dock.. can't be him though as he is born Ilfracombe not Torquay RG13; Piece: 3415; Folio: 138

wonder if he could be in hospital/ workhouse or something, maybe only listed as T C or something :?

Hi Simone
I found the Thomas J Comer that was on board the ship, in FreeBMD so not our Tom...good try me dear :)
Do you think "our" Tom went walkabout? that's why his wife is with his dghtr?? and why he's in the workhouse in 1911 instead of being with this kiddies?

Found these possibles in the 1911:
Institution - COOMBS, Rosina Mary - 1858 - 53 - West Derby - Lancashire.

And this one across the water...
Household - COOMBER, Rosina - 1858 - 53 - Birkenhead - Cheshire.

The ages are very close, so is Rosa really Rosina and in the same workhouse, West Derby, as husband Tom but they got her surname wrong?

Trying to find out if Rosa had other forenames, and assuming the only marriage for a Tom Coombes that I could find (to Rosa Baker - Mar 1871 - Totnes - 5b - 288) was the right one, I found this Devon birth:
Baker, Rosina Mary Briscoth - Barnstaple - 5b - 405. Possible good match for the West Derby Rosina above?

Hi Doe
You wouldn't have Sessions Rd before as that was her daughters address.
1894 Directory for 26 Candia St has a Robert Dunn painter.

Tina

Have you the Rosa in 1861 census with her father William??

For the peeps...
Willam Baker daughter Rosina, Devon.

Hi folks
Simone..my apols I should have put her age as 4yrs.
How many of them are in Devon & William Bakers too??
1861 lists her birthplace as Exeter so I'm not sure if this is our lass as in
later census it states Dawlish & Torquay.
Just a shot in the dark I feel.
I've tried to find them in next census, no show except for a ROSENA listed as niece.
I'm sorry, not of much help to everyone.

Tina

Difficult I think you might have a choice for Rosa, born about 1857 (1901) or 1854 (1891) and I think you could include the Rosa in the 1911 census in the Workhouse 1858 (1911) since there doesn't appear to be a death entry prior to 1911.

Rosa D Coombes died Q2 1938 age 80 Liverpool North 8b 479
Rosina Coombes died Q1 1936 age 79 Liverpool South 8b 212

I think it would be worth your while to check out the registers of the workhouse before proceeding with death certs.

There are a variety of Workhouse Registers and Minute Books held at the Record Office, however I don't know what dates would be on microfilm or which might be held at the satellite office in Sandhills. I think Roger Hull would be best able to advise what dates are where, contact details for the Record Office http://www.liverpool.gov.uk/libraries-a ... y-history/
