I don't see Highland Brow on the map, however Windle is the area around the turning off the East Lancs Road, Rainford Road, opposite the Rainford Bypass, so north and a little west of St Helens itself.

Hi N.M
If we could find him in 1851 census, it may give more info regarding his location.
I've had no luck, perhaps surname mis-transcribed?
If you could list his folks names, we may have some luck.
There are so many Johns in Windle, you should read some of the surnames
Thanks and I hope you are well me dear.

thought I would do a quick check of the 51 C and see if the enumerators descrip had Highland brow sure enough it was listed they have William Bromilow as Bumiller visitor Jane Marsh as Jane Martha and children as Brominton go figure. any way the description is
all that part of the township of Windle from the south boundry at Gerrards bridge, thence along the brook which runs through the township to the north extremity at mop bank comprising Highland brow, primrose hill, back lane, chant bones folly, sandy lane, the whole of mop bank, ferry bank and ending at the new bridge.

I have had a look at the 51 C and Stan is right, the name must have been corrupted over the years from Highland to Island.
The townships of Windle and Hardshaw, Parr, Sutton, and Eccleston were combined in 1868 and made into a county borough by Queen Victoria.
Could this be William and Janes grave St Helens Cem sec 12 plot 298?
