Jane Yates married St James Walton on the Hill in 1851. She lived in Wesley St. Was this street in Walton? Does anyone have any Yates on their family tree?

Welcome to the forum Brenda.

In 1851 census Jane Yates is 25 bn Woolton, general servant at 3 Wesley St Tox Park, St James district for Margaret Aiken wid landed proprietor.

If you need any census info from when she married Edward, just sing out.

Thankyou both for replying. I have written down all the burials, just in case I find the names. Jane Yates went to live in Hawarden after her marriage. My great grandmother Sarah went to Jane's home to have her baby in 1867 so it seems probable that Jane was related to Sarah's mother -also Sarah -nee Yates who married in Childwall in 1832 then moved to Haydock. I am trying to find the Yates family and where they lived. I got the info from Jane's marriage cert. but it seems she was married from her work place and not her original home. Her father was Joseph Yates a blacksmith. I am stuck now so any help would be appreciated.

Hi Brenda
Thanks for reply.
I've found a Jane Yates 15 living in Delf Lane Childwall in 1841 but not with Yates people. It looks like she is looking after kiddies for Turton family.

Sarah married James Phythian blacksmith(what a famous local surname this is!) in 1832.
1841 ages rounded off, she was 25 & in 1851 she's 36, born 1815circa.

Do you think Sarah P & Jane were sisters?

Sarah who had a baby in Hawarden, where does she fit in please?
Is she a Phythian?

Cheers
Tina

Thankyou Tina

Am wondering if Jane and Sarah nee Yates were sisters. 1841 Sarah and husband James Phythian in Allerton Road with their children ,in Haydock by 1851. Their daughter Sarah Phythian born 1841 had illegitimate child Aaron in 1867 at home of Jane in Hawarden, her mother Sarah probably ill at time as died in 1867 aged 56. I believe father's name not shown on registers as early as 1832 when Sarah and James married. Jane was "above age" when married. I thought if I found the family of Jane still in Liverpool I might see "family names" James, Thomas, Aaron, Stephen, mary, Joseph. These are children of Sarah and James Phythian but Jane's father was Joseph. I am really hunting in the dark. so any bit of light would be appreciated.

Hi Brenda

Let's just go back here.

You've obviously got Sarah in 1851 to list all her sibs. Father James.
Sarah a Phythian. Jane nee Yates.
Did James P marry a Yates?

I'm not sure how we can make a connection, there must be one.

Thankyou. Yes I do have all the census from 1841 and details of the descendants of James Phythian and Sarah nee Yates. I suppose they moved to Parr and Haydock to work in the many collieries there where all kinds of skills were needed. They were my greatx2 grandparents. I wanted to find out about the Yates when I found my grandfather's birth at the Weigh/Yates home. All I know about Sarah Yates is when she married James Phythian but Jane Weigh nee Yates must be of her family. I can't get to Liverpool to look at registers. I have never been to Parr, but pit villages weren't beautiful.

Hi Brenda
Thanks for more info.
There's a 10 yr age between Jane & Sarah.
What a pity they weren't with their families in 1841...
Perhaps they were cousins?
I'm hoping we can find a connection for you.

Thanks Tina. Yes I was disappointed to find that Jane Yates was not with her family in 1841. I was hoping to find her father Joseph in 1841 but I can find no record of him although her marriage cert in 1851 does not say he was dead. It took a long time to find out details of my grandfather's birth so I am still hoping to find more Yates.

thanks again

Hi Brenda
Going back to 1841, I was thinking Jane wouldn't be too far away from her family.
In IGI there's a baptism for Jane Yates 8/3/1826
mother Martha father JOSEPH in Childwall..........
She's the only one through the batch number.

1841 If you shouted "Oi Yatesy" down Childwall High St at least 20 heads would turn round  there's a smorgasbord of them!!

Hi Tina

That sounds great, considering that Sarah Phythian nee Yates was married in Childwall. If Jane is the only one in the batch number, what does that mean? Surely she must have siblings. This looks like the correct Jane as age and father's name are right. Can you find Martha and Joseph on 1841 census? I had always thought Phythian an unusual name as noone could ever spell it. Had a surprise when found it was common in LIverpool and my family came from there. Yates sound just as common. Thanks very much for searching for me.

Hi Brenda,

I'm a Yates from Liverpool (originally - we left when I was a baby, I'm in Glasgow these days).

My grandfather Fred Yates grew up in Garston. I will have a look through my research - been busy getting married and stuff this year so had a little break from searching censuses, etc! Will report back if I can find anything that matches your findings.

Very best wishes,

Jamie Yates

Hi Jamie
Congratulations on your recent marriage. Best wishes for a happy & long life together.

Tina :D

Hi Brenda
The batch number sometimes brings up names of other children baptised. Not so in Jane's case.
I couldn't find her parents in 1841, they be there, mistranscribed.
There are so many Yates bn Lancs in IGI, if you are a speed reader you may find some in Childwall although they also had children baptised in Lpool.
You could go through census, looking for Yates bn Childwall/Woolton.
I'm sure the others will have some suggestions.

Hey Tina - thanks again! We've got our photos back at long last, I'll have to send you a link to them when we get them uploaded somewhere!

Brenda - will check through my Yates files over the weekend and try and report back Sunday or early next week. There's definitely a trail leading back to the Woolton area at some point.

Thank crunchie it's Friday, I'm pooped! As my old grandad Yates would've said "pretty tiring breathing all day isn't it... we used to do a proper days work in my day!!"!!

Ah, Grandad always referred to being born "under the bridge". Around the time of my granparents Golden Wedding anniversary in 2001 (when my brother and I changed our surname to Yates by deedpoll) my mum and brother went for a wander round the area he was born (Caronia St? - spelling might be wrong!) and took some great photos of the old buildings still standing there.

I'm not sure if any of his relatives were still in Garston in the '50s, I believe his parents moved out towards Speke, to a prefab near the airport. Grandad and his father were both Frederick and his mother Sarah (nee Brown) died c1955 if I remember right. I don't know of any siblings either of his parents may have had - must do a bit more work on them.

Hi again Jamie
Great post!
Caronia was at the end of Window Lane with Carpathia etc.
Named after Cunard/White Star ships.
Would you believe my gpa was on the Caronia!
He would have been in his late 40s as when his children were born he named them after the ship he was on. Too old by that time

Sorry Brenda we've hijacked your post here

For the crew
Sarah Brown married Frederick Yates at St Michael's Garston in 1922

Tina

There are quite a few Yates/nee Brown births after this date.
