Hi following on from my first posting (Leather family)

I had from igi a marriage for Richard Leather and Mary Ann Garnett 10 nov 1825 at St Thomas Toxteth. I went to Liverpool records off and took a ( quite poor) copy it just gives details of their names and the date

Thought this was correct

then

Johnoul has found a marriage for the same couple at St marys hale for 19 dec 1825 giving more info. This one I feel is correct as this would have been their parish church (his is from a cd of the church records)

Did perhaps bans get read and recorded at two churches this is the only reason I can come up with or can someone come up with anything else

Regards Carolyn

Can I also thank everyone who so far has helped I have had a posting on Rootschat for some time with only one reply. The reply was from someone from the same tree so we have been able to swop info but are both at the same dead end. this site maybe as it is smaller and more local has been more fruitful. I wish there was a site like this for the other trees I am doing but they are my paternal grandfathers and from Hawarden Flintshire.

bye for now

It looks to me as if they got married at the first in Liverpool probably as that was her church (seem to remember her birth place is given as Liverpool) and then again at his church were they were going to live. I've seen this happen before.

The other possibility is that they were going to marry in Toxteth Park, the vicar filled in the marriage register in readiness but the marriage didn''t actually happen - did the couple sign the register and are there any witnesses? If there aren't I would guess the mariage didn't happen and instead they got married in Hale. Do either of them say by banns or by licence?

Hi I amlooking at the copy from the fist marriage in St thomas it says by banns both Richard and Mary ann signed with a x so it does look like a wedding .

Never heard of two weddings before but I do know that no proof of age or marriage status was needed at that time .Or maybe they just liked cake

I have a gt grandmother on my mothers paternal side who married a younger man and knocked 5 years off her age . She got away with it
