Looking for George HOWARD mid 1800s

Post by ronsmith »

Can anyone help in information about a George Howard, my gt gt grandfather. His daughter was born in Liverpool (Everton area) on 16th August 1864 but I cannot find anything on him. George was a jeweller journeyman and later watchmaker. George was married to Elizabeth Heaton but I don't know when or where.

Hello and welcome to our forum.

www.lancashirebmd.co.uk have a marriage of George HOWARD to Elizabeth J HEATON in 1856 at St Philip C of E Liverpool. Could this be your missing marriage? If so you could either send for the certificate or possibly someone on the forum might do a look up for you.

This is perhaps them in 1871. There is a child probably born in 1864

12 Dawson St Liverpool
george Howard H M 36 working jeweller bn Holyhead N Wales
Elizabeth J wife 34
Elizabeth Ann daughter 12
Ann J daughter 7
Charlotte daughter 4
George son 11months

rest of family bn Liverpool

The census entries were found on www.ancestry.co.uk. This is a paying website however libraries in the rest of the UK have a library subscription whereby you can look at it for free. I imagine this facility might be available in the Isle of Man.

Can you confirm if this is the right family

E.O great research, well done!

Hi Ron, if E.O has the right family, you can find them in 1881 census free search at the Mormons site.
George is widowed, he has young George, Louisa & Florence at 14 Villars St Lpool.
Elizabeth may have died in dec qtr 1878 aged 41yrs Lpool rego.
1891 the kiddies are servants at assorted places.
I think George the jeweller may have died in 1890 Lpool rego 47 yrs??

Hi E.O. and Tina

Thanks for those leads - they all look like the right Howards but I will check and also get that m certificate. It's strange as I did several searches on the IGI and could not find George for 1881.

regards

Florence Howard

Post by Tina »

Hi Ron
Perhaps you had his birthplace as Wales in 1881 census?
Charlotte from 1871 is 14 in dom. serv Gt Charlotte St.

Florence was 4 in 1881.
1891 I think she is in service West Kirby.
There's a marriage in 1900 at St Cyprians Edge Hill to Henry Edwards.
1901 census has Florence 24, Henry 25 Barman bn Shrops living at 43 Willoughby St Edge Hill.

If this rings any family bells, you could put a new post clearly asking for a look up at LRO giving the above details and that the marriage took place in the June qtr.
If SKP can do this, it may show George as her father, occupation & if he's deceased.

I believe Charlotte (1867) was also in service in Bolton. Did she marry there?
